For a sizeable proportion of Britons, binge-drinking is a weekend institution, with the young especially showing a greater taste for blind inebriation and its side effects than many of their European neighbors.
According to the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS), 48 percent of British men and 31 percent of women aged 19 to 24 admit to having been blind drunk at least twice a month during the past year.
Similarly, 38 percent of Britons of both sexes first got drunk before the age of 13, compared to just 12 percent of the French. Within Western Europe, only hard-drinking Danish and Finnish teens outrank the British under-18s, with a tally of 40 percent.
A public health definition of binge-drinking is the consumption of at least five standard-sized alcoholic drinks on one occasion. Yahoonews.com

That's funny. That's where I went to get about 50 people to ping to this article!
I'm getting slightly tipsy at the moment :-)
I just finished that beer I opened at 1:30 P.M. with my usual light lunch.
The UK is one of the few places I have been where the idea of eating even a mere snack before a night out is considered bad form due to its inhibiting effect on rapid absorbtion. For those still concious after a number of rounds, it's curry time (naturally washed down by at least a lager or even an ale). I've tied a few on while over there, but never to the point of being blind drunk.
That's part of my point. For a twelve-year-old, I might be willing to count two drinks as a "binge." But the public-health do-gooders define these things without any sort of discrimination at all.
Chappaquiddick Fats...... what a bum.

help is on the way
I have a plan
You don't have to work so hard to confuse me, dear girl. I confuse easy. ;O)
A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it.
They look sooo nice flying in the upper-lefthand corner.
It's easy, click "you can edit this page" and voila just select a flag, the rest is automatic.
P.S. see my tagline and thanks in advance.
This might sound stupid, but I forget how to get to my page. I'd be glad to put up a (PA) state flag.
There's two ways, click your name in the above post, OR on the news page in the upper right hand corner click on "more" then your profile page is available.
Steelers or Eagles?
O.K., I did it. Check it out. You're right, it's real pretty waving away!
I have posted a little over 60 threads over time. Do you know how I can find those 60+ threads? Do I have to scroll through all my 6200+ replies? I hope not. I just want to remember all the threads that I began. Yoi!
Thanks for any help on that.
But, on another level, my wife, being a golf enthusiast, says this to me when I tell her that she's driving me cazy. --- She says, "Thom, with you it's not a drive.......it's a putt."
;-)
Thanks for any help on that.
I wish I knew, I'll bet the Admin Moderator can help with that question, he is all powerful!
Steelers or Eagles?
The Steagles win The Super Bowl?
I don't know, let's just see if they get that far. All I know is that if the Steelers lose a couple more guys who are already hurt (Hines Ward - "Ward did it despite being injured. He sustained a hip pointer in the first series, on the first pass thrown to him. Ward ran into the locker room, where he was given a pain-killing shot, and returned to play the rest of the game.
"I just wanted to get back out there battling with my teammates," Ward said. "But it's going to be sore tomorrow. I have to play. Losing me and Plax out there? It would have been a long day, I think.").......... the Steelers won't get that far.

By the way, did you know that in 1943, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh franchises combined for one season due to the manpower shortage created by World War II? The team was called both Phil-Pitt and the Steagles. Greasy Neale of the Eagles and Walt Kiesling of the Steelers were co-coaches and the team finished 5-4-1.
