You're correct. Skidmore is about 50 miles from where I live. It's very small (a few hundred people) - hard to imagine something like this happening around here. Sounds like a nice family, though, and I don't think they suspect the husband at this time.
This is true...the bully episode occurred around mid-70s and the guy's death could never be tied to any local...although there were at least 30 people who wanted to kill him, and they admitted so on TV. People in this town...don't fear very much. I'd be guessing that this is someone within 20 miles of the town, and probably lives out in the woods a bit. My guess is that they aren't very clear-headed (this would cut out 99 percent of the local population).
Makes me believe that the murderer/kidnapper(s) are not familiar with the local history. The book "In Broad Daylight" details the life, times, and violent demise of Ken McElroy, and is a good, quick read.
