The Yankees have reached agreement on the principal players in a three-team blockbuster trade that would land them coveted lefthander Randy Johnson, Newsday has learned. A few details have yet to be worked out, but indications are they are not big enough obstacles to kill the deal. The Yankees would receive the 41-year-old Johnson in the deal while sending pitcher Javier Vazquez and two minor-league prospects, catcher Dioner Navarro and third baseman Eric Duncan, to the Dodgers, according to an Arizona source. The Dodgers would send pitchers Brad Penny and Yhency Brazoban and outfielder/first baseman Shawn Green to Arizona to complete the deal. Johnson and Green both have no-trade clauses. Johnson has been requesting a trade to the Yankees for quite a while, so he will surely give his OK. Green's former agent is Jeff Moorad, who currently runs the Diamondbacks, so there's a great likelihood he would also approve the deal. The other issues involve perks in Johnson's contract and how he would be reimbursed for the loss of them with a trade to the Yankees, such as his tickets to Phoenix Suns games, and physicals for the players involved.

I was also amazed at their apparent blind spot on pitching. They did not seem terribly concerned -- how you could even think of going into a season with no lefty starter, especially at Yankee Stadium, is beyond me. I really do think they got a wake up call. I hear you on three superstars -- it never worked for Seattle. Although the Big Red Machine seemed to handle it pretty well, if you consider Rose/Bench/Morgan as superstars.
And my Phillies are in the passenger seat with them...
It could be worse. You could be Dodger fans...
try to keep up....
the one and only Yankee game I watched in person after I had moved to the West was at Yankee stadium against the Mariners with Randy pitching for the Mariners and Griffey hitting his first grand slam homerun....we sat right off first base and I could see Mattingly very clearly......
I thought it was Adrian Beltre who went to the Mariners, not Carlos Beltran.
Try to keep up ... :)
...
LOL......I take the doofus award...LOL
Keeping up is fun!!:)
Aah, no biggie. I had to think about it a few minutes myself!! And try keeping all the Rodriguezes straightened out if you want to really be hopping!!
ESPN seems to be reporting that the deal is off...Dodgers are rethinking...I can only hope this is true...
The two names are confusing. :)
Vitamin "V" !!! She'll love you for it!
I'm aware that not everyone agrees with this reckoning.
I went to see the Aberdeen Iron Birds (the Cal Ripken team). They were pretty good for a new team.
They will NOW do ANYTHING to reverse the '04 Result!!
Nearly EVERY MOVE they make in the "Off Season" will be seen as an attempt to Defeat the 'Sox!
HOW SAD!!
The "Revenge of the Red Sox" is NOW COMPLETE!!
If the 'Sox BEAT the 'Yankees in '05, the "Humiliation of" the Yankees will be COMPLETE!!
The "Drama" makes the "National Pastime" FUN!!
Doc
Hey, thanks Mr. B. You turned around my whole night!!
