Well, Ohio surely is fortunate, getting one of the best coaches in college football. As an alumni of the University of Nebraska, I think I'll be paying more attention to the University of Ohio from now on. Go Frank! Go Ohio! You couldn't have done any better than this!

A 9-3 record wasn't good enough for Nebraska, but it will be more than good enough for Ohio.

It will be interesting to see what Solich does at Ohio.

I am shocked that Ohio University was able to hire Coach Solich. I hope he does well. If he can recruit Ohio and Western Pa., he should be able to build a base for his team. Throw in a few players from the south and he will have a very good program.

Ohio is fortunate to have Frankie and the Nebraska fans are fortunate to have Ohio have Frakie.

I believe that he was hired by the Ohio University Bobcats, not the Ohio State University Buckeyes

I know...I'm picky about that.

Now who are we going to hire after Callahan and Co. have another losing season next year and get fired?

Ohio U. has had only two winning seasons since 1982. But we have great Halloween parties every year on Court Street!

Class of '80.

Growing up in Cleveland I saw him play several times for Holy Name and he was a tremendous running back. One of the best games I ever saw was when HN played Benedictine who had Larry Zelina (went to OSU) and I think both of them scored several touchdowns each.

Your namesake is one fine man, in every way, and he has a very good football mind. I got to work with him a little after my playing career, as a grad assistant in 1978-9. Just a super guy.

He played for a legend in his day (Devaney) and learned his coaching from one of the greatest in the history of NCAA football, Tom Osborne (course I'm biased!)

After a year of Callahan, Solich is looking pretty good now.

I wish him the best at his new school, but would rather see him on the Nebraska sideline again.

This just adds to the strength of the Mid-American Conference.
Solich will be able to recruit in football rich Ohio and Pennsylvania. Recruiting is a nasty business in these areas and there is a lot of competition. Coach Solich will be able to get some strong players in there. He has competition from MAC competitors like Toledo, Miami, Akron, Bowling Green, and Marshall. Don't forget about Cincinnati and Mark Dantonio who are moving to the Big East. Of course he has to compete with West Virginia and the 800 pound gorilla, Ohio State.
As a Buckeye fan, I do follow the MAC because there is a lot of Ohio high school football talent that flow into this conference. Ben Roethlisberger is exhibit A for this. Watch out for a fella by the name of Charlie Frye from Akron. I think he may make a splash in the NFL someday. The Buckeyes play an intra-state rival from the MAC or another conference at least once every season. As evidenced with some tight games against Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Ohio, and Miami in the past, there will be a MAC or MAC caliber team that will come into Ohio Stadium and beat my mighty Buckeyes in the near future. I hate to admit it, but it is the truth.
Solich needs to get talking with the high school coaches in Ohio and he will be well on his way.
Best of luck to Coach Solich and the Ohio Bobcats.

Frank was a class act. From my perspective he truly cared about the players, not just on the field, but in real life. Unfortunately, somehow, someone managed to hijack NU football, turning it into the monster it seems to be becoming. .. a northern version of Miami.

Good luck Frank. Now who do we hire to replace Steve P. and Callahan after they are fired next year?

Blame the new AD (Pederson?) and some of the boosters. If Nebraska has another losing season, I don't want Callahan gone, I want Pederson gone.
