Harrison Ford signs for Iraq war film

Harrison Ford is to star in what will be Hollywood's first feature about the current Iraq war. Producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher have bought the option for No True Glory: The Battle for Fallujah, a non-fiction written by Slate reporter Bing West.

The book is due to be published in May and tells the story of an assault on Iraqi insurgents in Falluja, from the perspective of US marines.

Variety reports that Ford is already attached to play General Jim Mattis, in charge of the attack. Shamberg and Sher's production company Double Feature has already been working with Ford on the medical drama For His Sick Kid, based on the novel by Geeta Anand.

It is probable that the film will strike a different tone to the only major feature about the US's previous war in Iraq, 1999's Three Kings, which told the story of a group of cynical, self-serving US soldiers. West's coverage of the war has tended to side with US troops.

Michael Shamberg is a John Kerry and Wes Clark supporter. So this will be a spin movie for sure. I am sure the Libs are going to try to make this Bush's Black hawk down. Mark my words. Check out the link that proves this producer does not support Bush.

The leftist antiwar crowd "playing war"
They criticize our entry into wars but they sure as hell don't mind making HUGE sums of money off the idea.

Let me know when any of these clowns enlist...
I won't be holding my breath!

I am sure this movie will portray our brave men and women as savages.

The General will have to be portrayed as an ignorant Southerner who hates Jews, blacks and gays. In addition, he'll be an alcoholic that beats & cheats on his wife. Did I leave anything out?

James N. Mattis

here's hoping that this will turn out positive. Had been hoping Gibson was going to do something about this war, like he did with "We Were Soldiers."

This will be the "Platoon" for Iraq. You know that leftist P.O.S. Oliver Stone? I am sure Michael wants a Best (Lefty) Picture award too.

Most Best Picture winners are conservative. Look at a list sometime.

Well, if he were a Democrat, he could be a member of the Klan and given a pass, so Republican it is.

Three Kings was the only movie about the first Gulf War?

I guess I just dreamed up that Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan movie called Courage Under Fire.

Me and my imagination/sarcasm

Three Kings was terrific. It was actually critical of GHWB for not staying the course in Iraq and withdrawing too soon.

The author is a former Marine who fought in Vietnam.  He was Assistant Secretary of Defense under Reagan.  I'm still not sure how this one is going to come out.  I'm particularly concerned that he put things in context in the book that will be lifted out of context in the film in order to slam Bush and company.

Excerpts from Random House web site for the book:

ABOUT THIS BOOK

“There is no glory in battle worth the blood it costs.”
——General Dwight D. Eisenhower

No True Glory is a firsthand account of the gritty fighting, political maneuvering, and ongoing struggle in this crucial city–a microcosm of the confused and frustrating Iraqi war.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

BING WEST is the author of several books, including the award-winning The March Up: Taking Baghdad with the United States Marines and the Vietnam classic The Village. He served as a Marine in Vietnam and was assistant secretary of defense under Ronald Reagan. He lives in Rhode Island. Visit his website at www.westwrite.com.

There's no way Ford will be a part of anything that gives ANY credit to Bush and ANY legitimacy to the Iraq war; this is the imbecile who called the Bush administration a "regime" in order to draw equivalence with Hussein's "regime."

As for Gibson. He won't either, given his derivative crack about the missing WMDs and also his silly and coy evasion of Hannity's question: who will you be voting for?

I can see this will be a bunch of garbage...just from the title.

Harrison Ford slams Bush policy, guns In Spain interview:

"I'm very disturbed about the direction American foreign policy is going," said Ford, according to the Australian Associated Press.

"I think something needs to be done to help alleviate the conditions which have created a disenfranchised and angry faction in the Middle East," said the 62-year-old Ford, the Australian news wire reported.

"I don't think military intervention is the correct solution," he said. "I regret what we as a country have done so far."

Damn! All my favorite actors are making me hate them! Now I guess I'll lose my fantasies of Harrison Ford...I won't think he's so sexy anymore. Oh well, it's all good, cuz there is no sexier guy than the US Marine and there are plenty of them to fantasize about!! YES!

Isn't he on the top of the list of Bush haters in Hollyweirdland? I think I saw his name and quotes on FR and he was just another rabid leftist with a mal-functioning brain.

If this is the Bing West I know of, he is a retired Marine officer, who commanded a company of Marines in the battle of Hue. If Bing has any say, this will not be a "bash the Marines" movie. Read his books, the "March Up" and "The Village".
One of these days, maybe, Hollywoood will learn simply tell the story without embellishment, contrivances, romance or pretty faces. Occassionally, they do and the movies sell like hotcakes.
