Is there any plans for entertainment on the mall like they had at the Lincoln Memorial in 2001? They had some singers and festivities, etc. on the evening of the 19th.

Me too...I'm pissed. You'd think they'd at least send you one of those "commemorative" invites that doesn't get in into anything...

Va. Tech band picked for parade

Richmond Times-Dispatch Dec 15, 2004

WASHINGTON - Some of Virginia's top brass will be participating in President Bush's second inaugural parade.

The Regimental Band of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets - aka the "Highty-Tighties" - was informed it succeeded in a highly competitive process and will march in the parade Jan. 20.

"We're very honored to be part of such an important event," the band's director, retired Army Maj. George McNeill, said yesterday.

"The Highty-Tighties are no stranger to the presidential inaugural parade; they are the retired champions," McNeill said, alluding to an earlier era in which units were judged for their performances in the parades.

Beginning in 1917, the band has gone to the inaugural parade 10 times, most recently in 1997. Tech won first place in 1953, 1957 and 1961.
