Abbas: No to resettling refugees
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
PLO chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) on Wednesday rejected a new Israeli initiative to resettle Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and neighboring Arab countries.
"Any proposal regarding the resettlement of the refugees is completely rejected," Abbas told reporters in Saudi Arabia.
Abbas was referring to the Foreign Ministry's diplomatic initiative aimed at finding a permanent solution to the Palestinian refugees in the PA-controlled areas and in neighboring Arab countries.
The initiative calls for asking countries that support the PA financially to invest capital in finding a permanent housing solution for Palestinians living in the refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Syria and Lebanon.
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has reportedly spoken with leaders of countries that financially back the PA, as well as representatives of the World Bank, and asked them to assist with the new plan. The plan also includes a request by some of these nations to absorb some of the refugees in their own countries.
The Ramallah-based Committee for Defending the Rights of Palestinian Refugees also rejected the Israeli plan and called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to acknowledge its responsibility for the plight of the refugees.
"Israel alone must admit that it is responsible for the problem of the refugees," the group said in response to the Israeli initiative.
"Israel must recognize the right of the refugees to return to their homeland and properties and compensate them for the psychological and material damage."
The committee condemned the Israeli plan as an attempt to obliterate the right of return and to extract more concessions from the Palestinians.
It warned the PA leadership against accepting the plan, which, it added, constitutes a grave offence against the refugees' rights.
"The right of return belongs to all Palestinian generations," the committee said. "It can't be replaced with plans to resettle the refugees because such attempts won't bring peace and security. The right of return is sacred, moral and legal."
The European Union, in a rare moment of wisdom, voted to refuse to recognize "right of return" a couple of years back. Not wishing to open up any of the forced migrations of Germans, Poles, etc... after World War II some MEPs commented "what was done 60 years ago cannot be undone".
Mahmoud Abbas knows that "right of return" is what scuttled agreements at Camp David and Taba. He knows that no Israeli leader will ever agree to flooding millions of Palestinians into Israel proper. Insisting on "right of return" is insisting on the destruction of Israel. It won't happen, and if the Palestinians continue this way they will bring about their own destruction.
5 wars haven't resolved this.
Can there be any doubt that the goal of the SMs* is the destruction of Israel, and not the solution of the refugee problem?
*SM©= Sweet Muslims
Or, in the alternative, we will go on as we have for the past 20 years or so, pouring money into the PA, commiserating over the plight of these poor "refugee", having UN resolution after UN resolution condeming the evil Jews, etc. Ugh.
Terrorism and violence have been on the rise during the last 20 years. We cannot tolerate that forever. Sooner or later, probably sooner, Israelis will reach the breaking point and elect a government that will lash out at the Palestinians in the harshest possible way.
Just kill them. And while they are at it, go into the refugee camps and kill them also. Ethnically cleanse all Palestinians that are living in and around Israel.
Figuring Sudan did it, Rwanda did it, Bosnia did it to name only a few and no one cared, this should be a slam dunk. Jordan and Egypt can join in the genocide. This will surely collapse any insurgency.
I was being sarcastic. Or was I?
I hope so. The difference between us and the Palestinian terrorists is that we don't do things like that.
I guess we all know what they want...perpetual war.
How dumb can they get?!?!
Fools
"Abbas: No to resettling refugees (Translation: No to Peace, Ever) PLO chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) on Wednesday rejected a new Israeli initiative to resettle Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and neighboring Arab countries. "Any proposal regarding the resettlement of the refugees is completely rejected," Abbas told reporters in Saudi Arabia."
Same old movie, same old script. It never changes. Keeping with tradition, Abbas said one thing to the US press, and another thing in Saudi Arabia. The Arabs will only be satisfied with the destruction of Israel. Any "peace", any "compromise" are for them, merely stepping stones toward their goal. It has been that way for the past 50-60 and more years.

WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
Ya know, these guys kind of remind me of the Moties.
I missed something here. What "concessions" have the Israelis extracted until now??
You know I get emails from the Freeman Center, most of which are against unilateral withdrawal by Israel from Gaza and parts of the West Bank. I have always thought highly of Ariel Sharon, so I do not know what to think about that. But, yesterday's editorial on the subject by Frank Gaffney influenced me quite a bit. And, hearing this---that the Palestinians aren't willing to resettle or give up the "right of return" or, seemingly, compromise in any way, influences me even more.
Who is asking you. Eventually the itinerant population will be Transferred regardless of what you say. It is merely a matter of time now.
Ya'll must read "The Haj" by Leon Uris (written circa 1983) to know why these Palestinians are so irrational and self defeating.

"Any proposal regarding the resettlement of the refugees is completely rejected," Abbas told reporters in Saudi Arabia.
[thirty years later, in one of hundreds of all-Palestinian nursing homes in exile]
"And I told them to shove it! That we'd never accept resettlement in the West Bank and Gaza! Really showed them! Hey, that guy in the wheelchair... no, that other wheelchair... no, that other one, by the door. It looks like he's got explosives wired to his chest and" [boom!]
No means "raise your offer".
We are still alive and breathing. The Palestinians clearly see that as a concession.
