Democratic Leaders Call on President Bush to Address Tax Simplification Now
Yahoo ^ | Dec 15, 2004 | Nancy Pelosi...

December 15, 2004 President George W. Bush The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear Mr. President,

As we approach a new session of Congress, Democrats and Republicans agree that we must reform the tax code now. Recent statements by Administration officials indicate that you may postpone the appointment of a tax reform advisory panel and may delay sending Congress a proposal until 2006. We are writing to encourage you to act now so that tax reform can move us toward a system that is more fair, less complex, and that adequately funds the budget without perennial deficits.

Democrats are committed to the following principles:

We look forward to working with you on a bipartisan basis to simplify the tax code for all Americans. Together, we can create a tax system that reflects common values and creates a more vibrant economy.

Thank you for your attention to our concerns.

    Sincerely,

Nancy Pelosi
Democratic Leader

Steny H. Hoyer
Democratic Whip

Robert Menendez
Democratic Caucus Chairman

Charles B. Rangel
Ranking Member, Committee on Ways and Means

John M. Spratt, Jr.
Ranking Member, House Budget Committee

George Miller
Ranking Member, Committee on Education and the Workforce

Rosa L. DeLauro
Co-Chair Steering and Policy

Yes. And most people today, are not overly concerned with the level of taxation in this country.

That's because it's taken out of their pay checks before they ever get to see it. All they understand is how much they can get back at the end of the year.
If Republicans want real tax reform and the elimination of wasteful social programs, they should make a bill saying every taxpayer has to sign a form saying they've been told exactly how much the government has taken from them in taxes each year. People would scream for reform if their tax rate was brought to their conscience attention.

This was the discussion I was trying to avoid. LOL

I agree. However, my main point was that taxation was Roughly around the E point on the laffer curve, but by making Private accounts, Government Converted Income, would be restored to the taxpayers as Private Property.

The Left, once in power can always find an excuse to raise a tax. Taking massive amounts of Private Property would result in electoral annihilation.

What are the odds that any "tax simplifaction" we see in the next 4 years will in fact add 1,000s of pages to the Tax Code?

What if there are more grasshoppers than ants, then what? 50% of the nation is getting a free ride already!
What if the non taxpayers get into power again? Doesn't it seem odd they get to decide how to spend everyone else's paycheck? Somethings wrong with this picture, that's for sure.
I've always supported a consumer tax. That way, "the poor Democrats" wearing Nike sneakers and buying computers and big screen color TV's would also have to pay taxes. To me, that would be fair. If they "want", let them pay, too.

That is my point exactly. In terms of the the FICA tax, EVERYONE THAT WORKS is an Ant.

And once they start seeing their own wealth accumulate....

The secondary facet of that, is the afterward. Once there are private accounts, and the world doesn't come to an end, the political right will point out the lefts hysteria on every issue after that.....the left will either move to the right ( a win for us) or be discarded (also a win)....

If we can just come up with a Tax Code that does not try to implement social policy, we may be able to get rid of 1,000s of pages. The Tax Code should be solely to raise revenue, not for social engineering. My opinion.

They are trying to stop SS reform by pushing this, which of course they'll block as well. Privitazation of SS is the end of the dem party. The more money people accumulate in private accounts, the more irrelevant their party becomes.

Don't reform, replace it.

A Taxreform bump for you all.

If you would like to be added to this ping list let me know.

John Linder in the House & Saxby Chambliss Senate, offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and SS/Medicare payroll taxes outright, and provide a IRS free replacement in the form of a retail sales tax:

H.R.25, S.1493
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.

Suggested reply:

Dear Mizz Botoxi,

I don't need any of your votes to get this through the House, so why do I give a sh*t what you say?

Sincerely, President (For Four More Years) George Walker Bush

Recent statements by Administration officials indicate that you may postpone the appointment of a tax reform advisory panel and may delay sending Congress a proposal until 2006.

The Democrats are fishing for an agenda to run on in 2006. By deferring tax reform until after the mid-term election, Bush is trying to make this reform on his terms, not on the Democrats' terms as they seek re-election. The Democrats want to stop the hemorrhaging, and make a statement with the 2006 election.

Cancel Jesse Jackson not for profit tax status, as a test case for political action groups disguised as ministries, with a real congregation.

How is that for a start.

OK, perhaps what is needed now is just an email list of all those "Democrat leaders" to send them email in support of H.R. 25 and S. 1493...

I always insert this story when dems talk rich/poor. During the 2000 race, gore was asked "Who do you consider to be a millionaire?" Answer: " I would consider anyone who works for his entire adult life at $25,000 a year a millionairre." I was so shocked the Ahole would say it out loud. When They talk "middle class" they are talking the welfare class.

a. The question on taxes really is the larger question of putting all the money collections of the government on the table and looking at the total amount of money raised.

b. The question of the budget is really the larger question of putting all the expenditures of the government on the table and looking at the amount of money spent.

c. The point is to have b less than or equal to a.

d. A fair tax is one in which every person in the country participates with no exceptions.

e. A fair budget is one which includes only real (and realistic) necessities.
