Child pornography charges were filed against a former Memphis police officer already in jail on drug and bribery charges. The problems for former Memphis police officer, David Tate, are growing. Tuesday afternoon, Tate was indicted on charges of possessing child pornography. He is the only one of his co-defendants who was not given bond. His attorney asked for it, but prosecutors fired back in a court document saying Tate is dangerous and a flight risk and a lot more.
Prosecutors want former Memphis police officer, David Tate, to remain behind bars. A document filed this week in response to Tate's request for bond spells out why. Prosecutors say Tate was the "ring leader" in a scheme involving his topless dancing girlfriend and two other Memphis police officers, drugs, prostitutes and burglary, in which Tate talked about possibly shooting the home owner, wrestler Jerry Lawler. The document reads, "Tate also discussed committing a murder should it be necessary to accomplish the burglary." And Tate prepared for violence, telling his girl friend April Veach, "He and April Veach would wear bullet-proof vests during the burglary." Prosecutors also say Tate talked about suicide, if he was arrested. "After the arrest, he made a comment to the agents indicating that he would have used his gun to take his own life, if given the chance. Later in prison, he discussed plans to commit suicide by overdosing on hoarded medication.
David Tate's attorney did not want to comment because he has not had a chance to read the prosecutor's remarks in the document. Former officer David Tate and his accused accomplices, Officers Billy Scott and John Vaughn, are all due back in court on December 28th. Scott and Vaughn are already out on bond. A fourth accused conspirator, April Veach, is also out on bond.
A new wrinkle from this thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1286371/posts
It was for research!
Surely not in Memphis, tell me it isn't so.
Bad cops - as my Ma would say - "there's one in every group".
Memphis is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation. Jerry Lee got away with murder because of his contacts. Justice in memphis is defined as who you know, who you pay to look the other way and how many clubs you own.
Unfortunately yes, it is in Memphis. What's more, Tate's father is a local tv anchor. To have to be on the set and have your co-anchor tell the citizenry about what a low-life scum your son is has got to be brutal.
The mayor himself is under FBI investigation.
"...Memphis is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation..."
It starts with the mayor's office and corruption works itself through to the lower levels of power. I know, I live here. And I hate it. This city could be so much better, but it's trapped in the racially charged past. So sad.
"...Sorry, I forgot to add the sarcasm tags...."
No worries. Sarcasm is what helps get you throught the bs that goes on in this city.
About 15 years ago I was in one of JLL's clubs when he came in unexpectedly. The club was dea at the time, only a handful of customers. JLL decided to give us a short show, he got on the piano and even then as old as he was gave us a helluva performance, all for free. Stood just a few feet from him as he played, diamond rings and all. You know his nickname in Memphis is the "strangler" don't you?
I am only a parttimer here now as I just work there.
And this is why my current bedside special is on of these
Andy Kauffman will be avenged!

They wanted to steal his crown! They should have challenged the guy in the ring . . . |
Lawler had told some stripper he had 200K in his jukebox at home. Jerry likes the young girls. I know one personally that was 30+ years his junior.
As in Jerry Lee Lewis?
What did he do?
Girlfriend found strangled, case of suicide, not realy, just not solved. Lots of questions never answered.
