Speaking of the death toll from Marxism as springing from an "absolutist belief", let us not forget, right behind Stalin and Mao and well ahead of PolPot, Rachel Carson. In successfully banning DDT, she is, posthumusly no less, responsible for roughly 20 million deaths throughout the third world from malaria.

Excellant point:

"Good intentions, devoid of the truth, kills untold millions."

In total, Marxist regimes murdered nearly 110 million people from 1917 to 1987.

I never knew this. Why didn't anyone try to stop the Marxists?

Good post JH2. . .

I am a fan of R.J. Rummel. Quoted him often during election to explain 'why' Democracy/Freedom important.(here as well) I was wanting for GW and Repubs et al. . .to use him more specifically to explain these 'why/wherefores'. . . in the simplest. . .most profound way.

One night, Charles Krauthammer said something and I thought. . .'Rummell"; in checking later for info; noticed some correspondence between Rummell and Krauthammer - found that interesting. . .and encouraging; still wish more would 'go there'.

And the next four years may be the best reason to do so.

Ca we even stop the Marxists in America? The most powerful of whom is Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton. We barely stopped Kerry, and some people think we didn't, that Ohio can still be overturned before Inaugeration Day.

Evil always requires a 'good horse' to ride on. Without a 'good'; 'evil' is completely useless; surely one reason the demonic as the 'devil figure'. . .is not friightening; but rather almost a humorous and powerless ID - so easily is 'he' recognized.

Reduction of CO² emissions? (Mammels account for 99% plus of CO² emissions, by the way.)

Wouldn't that be a nightmare! Liberals always champion and promote democracy until democracy starts working against them; then they whine about cheating and call their opponents undemocratic fascists. Duplicity and falsehood are the tools with which the Marxists wage war.

The one thing that I find fault with, in this article, is the writer in one breath says that Marxism led to over 100 million deaths and then in the next breath calls for democracy or free democracy. Last time I checked, democracy is socialism and socialism leads to communism. Which ever path you take they all lead to communism. It is amazing to see how the wool is being pulled over the eyes of America.

America is a FREE Republic.

Let me also say thanks.

And for those interested, Rummel does read his email. It is listed on his website.

I've used his work, most of which he provides for free on his website, in any number of online discussions. It generally drives Leftists batty.

I think more then anything though, his primary thesis; "Power kills; absolute power kills absolutely." is of extreme importance. Certainly the 20th century has been proof of this, as Rummel more then adequately shows.

Ah...what are you smoking? Democracy is a political system, socialism an economic one. There is no particular reason for one to cause the other either.

Good post. Thank you.

To be clear, the United States is a federal republic and not a democracy - that is, the electoral college versus the popular vote.
