NEW YORK (AP) - A Yemeni sheik charged with funneling millions of dollars to terrorists turned a routine court appearance Tuesday into a denunciation of his court-appointed attorney and treatment by U.S. authorities, accusing his lawyer of trying to help the government turn him into an informant.
"It seems to me that he is on the side of the government," Sheik Mohammed Ali Hasan al-Moayad said through an interpreter.
The sheik said he had been offered money to become a government informant: "They're going to make me a millionaire."
Al-Moayad, set for trial next month in Brooklyn federal court, is accused of funneling $20 million to al-Qaida in the years before Sept. 11, 2001.
His lawyer, Howard Jacobs, said the sheik had not been offered money to become an informant. The U.S. attorney's office declined to comment.
The defense and prosecution were discussing administrative matters when al-Moayad interrupted with denunciations of Jacobs and his jail conditions. He addressed a string of complaints to U.S. District Judge Sterling Johnson Jr.
The sheik alternated between praising and disparaging Jacobs, calling him "a great attorney" but unlikely to help his case.
"I love him," al-Moayad said. "But I need another attorney."

It's not like a terrorist to be a stinkin' whiner.
Shut up and eat your pork, raghead.
