Ah I bit I get this wrong. In Britain the day after Christmas Day is called Boxing Day. Consensus the reason for this is that years ago back in the days of the land owner employing half the village. The day after Christmas the left overs from the "big house(s)" were 'boxed up' and distributed to those less fortunate.

In the UK Christmas Day and Boxing Day are both public holidays, so this year with Christmas Day on Saturday and Boxing Day on Sunday we get Monday and Tuesday as public holidays. My company then asks us to take the next 3 days from our holiday entitlement we get the following Monday in lieu on New Years Day because that is on Saturday so we go back to work on Tuesday 4th January 2005.

Hope this explains a bit
