The Twelve Days of the Season? - It's not Christmas Anymore (Vanity)

Posted on 12/14/2004 12:21:39 PM PST by Bluegrass Federalist

I was in the car listenting to Rush this afternoon, when a commercial came on from the Kentucky lottery. Top the tune of the 12 Days of Christmas, the jingle started "On the first day of the season, my true love gave to me...." A stupid commercial where every day the idiot gets a lucky quarter for scratch-off lottery tickets.

My head nearly exploded. "Happy Holidays" is bad enough, but now you can't even say CHRISTMAS in a song about CHRISTMAS!!!! Yeeeaaaaaaargh! (channeling a little Howie Dean there).

This drives me nuts. They can have my Christmas when they pry it from my cold, dead hand.

The day is coming, when much to their dismay and anguish many will hear the following words spoken at them... "Away from me, I never knew you"

Merry Christmas to All!

You intolerant idiot. Don't you know the great mental stress non-Xians suffer when they here the word Xmas. Many of them require therapy just to get through the holiday season.

"That brings us to this Florida Lottery ticket. Luckily the word Christmas does not appear on the ticket. The street slang word jack means the following (1) nothing: He don’t know jack-S—t (2) stolen: My money got jacked (3) money: He’s getting some major jack. What is the target market for this particular lottery ticket? It's the black community. What does that say about the people at the Florida lottery?" Is this closet racism?

Sadly, none of my non-Christian friends are offended by anything Christmasy appearing during the season, as they acknowledge the 'reason for the season'. I'm not sure who's getting offended, outside of a few wackjob ACLUers.

Who cares? Frankly, I prefer knowing who my enemies are. I do not want them vying for my shopping dollars by placating me with their meaningless and gratuitous use of the word, "Christmas" (or anything else having to do with the Lord Jesus Christ).

Let them show their true colors for a change. More information is a good thing.

We also need to ban the phrase "Good bye." According to the dictionary, this offensive phrase is a shortened form of "God be with ye." For our children's sake, we need to use a more inclusive term when saying farewell.

I'm scared to post this because some weirdo might read it and think what I'm saying is a good idea. You never know.

And where did holiday come from? Holy Day. And Santa Claus comes from Saint Nicholas. And the Candy Cane is in the shape of a "J" for you know who.

Likewise, I was listening to a commercial about the movie ELF. In the commercial it says that ELF teaches the "true meaning of Christmas"

Funny, I don't recall the birth of Christ in the trailers for the movie.

..... or did I just miss it?

Of course you can say Christmas. Nobody's stopping you from doing that. I'd guess whoever made the ad can NOT say it if he wishes, too.

Now, the best bet is simply not to patronize the advertiser. But you can say "Christmas" all you want.

It's okay to say Merry Christmas:

"Merry Christmas. Believe It. Say It. Wear it!"
