This links to an Excel spreadsheet so it might not work for all users, but it's a list of Massachusetts employees in Depts under the Governor with annual salary over $100,000 as of 6/26/04 or total comp over $100,000 in FY04.

Jeez,

I can't believe it.

I checked out Howie's list of State Employees that make over $100,000.

http://rope.wrko-am.fimc.net/bulger/comp2.xls (the link might not work for you, it's in an Excel spreadsheet format).

If you sort by salary, of the top 25 highest earners, 21 of them work for either the Dept. of Mental Health or Dept. of Public Health.

The top three, at $182,831, are Psychiatrist SpecialistBd Cert. As a matter of fact in the top 25, there are 15 shrinks.

WTF is it with all the shrinks on the public dole? PEST counseling?

Thye don't make as much as the shrinks, but by FAR the biggest slice is taken by cops and screws. There are literally hundreds of staties making more than $100k.

I did a quick calculation and if you add all of the compensation and subract all of the salaries you get 25,140,883.01 in additional pay. Is this overtime, bonuses and such? If it is, that is rather large...

Quite possibly so. In MA, there are no such thing as flagmen/women on highway construction sites. Every truck crew stopped to fix a pothole on the highway is accompanied by at least one MA state trooper -- and his/her patrol car, serving as a very expensive platform for flashing warning lights.

I have seen as many as five patrol cars stopped at construction projects on I-495 -- with the troopers merely standing around looking bored,. And one of those was a supervisor's vehicle with more radio antennas on it than the President's limo carries!

It is my understanding that ll of this featherbedding make-work is done on overtime!

Thanks to the LEO Unions for this monstrous waste of dollars, manpower, and equipment...

They aren't the only ones with overpaid "public servants"--

Oakland salaries a shocking secret -- more than 800 employees who made at least $100,000 last year.

If $63k (itself a Pretty Good Wage) is less than half her overtime, it seems she barely slept a wink last year in order to "earn" that much overtime.

Any bets we are looking at a fraud?

this fact you are pointing out is why RATS fought so hard against the work rules created, in the summer, by the Labor Dept about overtime. They ran dozens of blue collar guys out for the media but left out the stories of what you are seeing. Once you get a management desk job, in police or fire, you should not get overtime. (my opinion and i'm sticking to it!)

Although $63k for a State Police Sergeant is most likely low in the North East (Avg is more likely around 78k) I'd still love to figure out how many hours overtime this equates to, but each police department is different in how it figures this out. It has to be a large amount of hours.

$63k is about 30$/hr. If she got about $50 for overtime (1 1/2 pay) that equates to 2817 hours in overtime ($140,867.32/50) which equals 117 full days (24hr in a day) in overtime. I'm sure there is some double-time and triple-time overtime mixed in there somewhere. Still, it seems like an enormous amount of overtime...

Sorry, I might have left the disclaimer out.

This wasn't a list of the "absolute" highest paid Taxachusetts hacks, it's only the ones that fall under the Governor's budget or "office" (as far as I understood it).

I don't think it includes the MA Hwy Dept., or many other Depts.

But I still find it outrageous.

Plus, I only bothered to extract the first 25 or so into HTML. You'll have to get an Excel viewer to see and sort the whole list.

I don't know if this only happens in blue states, but in MA, it's a pretty much RAT only legislature and incest is too kind a word to describe the what goes on here.

All I know is that my first year out as a consultant, I billed $125,000. I was an employee for a computer consulting firm in the private sector (and only got a tiny fraction of that in compensation), but I worked my ass off, and the shear amount of work helped contribute to the failure of my relationship with my fiancee. I don't think these hack pukes are actually working the way I did for their money.

The point is that why are public (i.e. failures in the private sector) making this kind of money?
