PORTLAND, Maine -- Erasing any potential doubts, U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe told a Maine Public Radio call-in program that she intends to seek a third term in 2006.
"I am running for re-election," Snowe said Monday. "It's sort of early to announce all that, but people have asked me so I obviously want to make sure that people know that I do intend to run for re-election."

Are there any conservative Democrats in ME who could run against her? Lord only knows!
Snowe is the first one to step up to the plate. I haven't heard any wheels turning of those that might run against her.
I'm sure if any of them read FR, someone will go up against her, since it's plain how most of us in Maine feel about her.

The only reason she announced her candidacy this early was to hopefully preempt any conservative challenge from within the Republican Party.

She announced on NPR, that's hilarious! Alright, the main question is, will she finally be honest and run as a D?

The only thing worse than her winning is for a "liberal / progressive" Democrat to win - and I'm a little shaky on that, if is were a moderate or more conservative Democrat. It is painful to listen to that woman talk, much less to endure her political activity.

Once someone achieves public office in Maine it takes a crowbar to get them out.

The only reason she announced her candidacy this early was to hopefully preempt any conservative challenge from within the Republican Party. That's probably her intentions. Kinda like "I dare ya!"

She announced on NPR, that's hilarious! Alright, the main question is, will she finally be honest and run as a D? I wish she would change her party. She isn't fooling anyone~

Once someone achieves public office in Maine it takes a crowbar to get them out. And some people wonder why I am all for term-limits! Just can't get rid of these people.

Every time I hear a news story on a Senate vote and the reporter says X amount of GOP Senators voted with the Dems I know which way Snowe and Collins voted.
To: G.Mason
Are there any conservatives Democrats in ME ?LOL. Good question.
But an even better one is why can't we find a conservative Republican to run against her in the primary?
We gave Specter a little scare with Toomay . . . maybe we've learned enough to make a successful run at Snowe. If nothing else, if we can make it close . . . damn close . . . maybe she'll feel more like a "team player" after the election.
I'm a proud Texan . . . but if we learned anything in this past election it's that other states' elections have a profound impact on ALL OF US. I'd gladly donate to a conservative Pubbie to run against Snowe, Collins, McCain, etc.
