A shakeout is afoot in the world of urban apparel, as sales of once red-hot labels begin to cool, analysts and industry executives said. The across-the-board slowdown is alarming some of the major department-store retailers that had allocated a growing amount of space to these brands on the belief that the double-digit sales growth of recent years would continue, sources said.
Federated Department Stores, which operates the Macy's and Bloomingdale's chains, for instance, is seeing recent sales of urban brands decline in the double digits, compared with year-ago levels, said one person, who added: "It has everyone worried."

Meanwhile, demand for the oversized jerseys and baggy jeans that these lines were known for dwindled, as classic looks regained popularity.

"What we had at retail," admits Ullmann, Phat Fashion's president, "was too urban."

ah I see..
things are a bit cheaper in Ohio....not much though...
and your scenery is probably better too....
LOL
there you go....
I am boycotting ESPN for their slam job on Ohio State :)
I'm boycotting ESPN for the bad job they did on Dale Earnhardt and Bear Bryant movies.
and I heard the Pete Rose one was a bomb too...
Didnt get to watch any of the 3 either.....
Ignore the clowns, Mike. I like the 505s, myself. They fit me better than any other brand. And the Dockers. :) Hope you come home safely soon.
Let me tell ya this...vintage sells! I can't get my kids into "new" clothing. It has to be deconstructed jeans and vintage tee shirts. While my older son ( the one with a job) will go to Goodwill and other thrift shops and find some "incredible deals", my younger ones (the ones for whom mommy is still responsible for buying clothes for) all like the A & F stuff. What gets me is that the more the garment is faded, ripped and otherwise vintage in appearance the more expensive it is. Bling bling is out and old and worn is in.
What about my Benz gold tooth? That is a timeless look!
My cousin's son was dressed to in his hip-hop clothes to go out on a date the other night.
My cousin said, "Son, you look like a hobo."
I hadn't thought of it quite like that.
My husband is a brick mason and he tried Wrangler's as work pants. They ripped in the first wear. His Levi's hold up forever. I don't care for their politics now that I am aware of them but, until a more conservative company makes a better product, he and I will continue to buy Levi's.
3 was a hoot. Per their story line, Dale was the biggest dumazz in the world till Teresa came along. Never mind that he already had two championships before she was in the picture.
I started couponing last year. Since then I pay very little for our groceries and household items. If your wife will hit the supermarkets that double or triple the coupon value she can actually feed you guys for free or nearly free. I do every week. My average grocery bill is 200.00 per week before coupons. After they are all totaled at the register I can get our of the store paying less than 100.00. I keep my receipts to prove it to those non believers.
Everytime I see that foto of those gang banger wannabees, the first thought that comes to my mind is 'someone needs to get their asses kicked'.
ahh I do. He called me a hot dog salesman in Baghdad a couple of months ago but hasnt yet explained what that means.
Besides, should I let politics decide if I should be comfortable or not?
the wranglers I had wore out in 2 months from normal wear at school.
They didnt fit so well either.
The Levi 569 fits perfect. I can't help that they give money to whomever.
I am pretty sure someone that made the computer I am typing on, on the internet I am traversing or on the server at FR is a liberal somewhere along the line.
ohh well....
LOL
they dont call ESPN the four letter network for nothing :)
since we dont have kids yet, the difference is kind of marginal right now.
but when we do, you bet it will be something like that....
"directly to the Brady Center"
I would go to the Brady Center if I got to meet Marsha. She was so hot. She was dating Warren Malaney .....
I always hated the oversized clothes. I would'nt even call it "urban" because they dress like that in the trailer park too. Micheal Savage is going to be happy that baggy pants are in decline.
