I understand that, but it makes no sense.

There are leftists lined up around the block salivating for the opportunity to write an op/ed column for the NYT, and they are willing to take only a fraction of her salary.

Why the NYT doesn't replace her with someone smarter, funnier and cheaper is beyond me.
