Yes, we'll have a dinner the night before. Haven't worked out the details yet, though. See you there!

I'm staying at home and taking the Metro (subway) in! Four years ago we drove in for the dinner the night before and had a time making our way around since so much of the downtown area was roped off for security reasons.

The day of the Inauguration and the Count the White House Silverware party we took the subway and did just fine!

RoseD and DollyCali are discussing sharing a room - a bit out, to save $$. Not sure how many others are/can be involved. I am all for a "full room" for fellowship & for others who are finance conscious

This may have been mentioned, suggested. but if not, I would and think many of us would like to go to visit the wounded troups at Walter Reed while in DC.

If we could all go in same time frame perhaps day before or after the Inauguration? visit GIs in groups of two or three? for 2-3 hours?

someone local would need to take on project to coordinate, plan.. gee Kristinn isn't busy...:)

I think it would be a wonderful thing to do and the side benefit would no doubt be some good publicity for FR

your thoughts?

also any graphics person able to make us all FR/Inau sweatshirts that we can wear other days for ID?

When I talked with a representative at Walter Reed last week, he said they are overwhelmed with visitors. He said it's best if you are there to visit someone you know, or at someone's request.

Also, we don't do our visits to Walter Reed for publicity.

I'll see what we can do that week that'll be beneficial for the wounded there and at Bethesda.

As of now we are staying at the Ritz Carlton in McLean. Due to business commitments, we are driving down early Thurs. morning (3-1/2 hrs)and leaving on Friday afternoon. I wanted to stay the weekend, but hubby has work to finish :(

Thanks Kristinn.. I do not know anyone there. and I am thrilled to know that they have lots of visitors. I had thought it was difft. I visit our local VA.. these men have NO visitors to speak of.

I agree, this would NOT be the reason(PR).. but is would be a result.

appreciate your response

Since my previous post, my hubby wanted me to check on the Washington plaza for the one night. Up to this point it had been blocked. I went directly to the Way.Plaza hotel site, and it let me book the one night and emailed me the confirmation.

Do any of you know if they can possibly come back and say my confirmation is void? I need to know before I cancel the Ritz.

We would much rather stay on site since we are only booking for the one night.

Barring a change of circumstances, I will have to bow out. Which is a real disappointment to me, what with this being the election of a lifetime, the dawning of a new era, the confirmation of the Conservative Revolution. Hate to miss hanging with some FReepers, too.
