Eiffel Tower open for ice skating
December 11, 2004
PARIS -- Holiday on ice takes on new meaning when you're high above Paris doing figure eights inside the Eiffel Tower.
In the Eiffel Tower's 115 years, it has added refreshment stands, trinket shops and fancy restaurants -- but nothing quite matches the skating rink in the sky that opened to the public Friday.
On an observation deck 188 feet above ground, the ice rink adds a new dimension to the breathtaking views from the French capital's best-known landmark.
''It's just magical. You see the whole city differently,'' said Finnish guest Hanna Patila, 20.
The rectangular rink is a little larger than a tennis court. It holds 80 skaters at once. Part of the idea behind it is to boost interest in Paris' candidacy for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Admission and skate rentals are free after paying the tower's entry fee. It costs $5.30 for adults and $3 for children to reach the tower's first level, where the rink is. AP
We have some great ice rinks in London this year. I think we have ten major open air ones.
There is nothing better than ice skating at Christmas!
Playing 'Crack the Whip' could have some serious implications.....
Hmmmm....

Well OK there are a few things....
They just did a story on it ....and when interviewing the ice skaters there.... they added that they have not found one American in Paris yet.......GOOD! Stay out of enemy terriroty.
Ice skating , Boston Common, State House in background.
Is there anyway they can fall off? No? How unfortunate.
" Ice skating , Boston Common, State House..."
That's me over on the far right :-)
I gotta admit though, those pix of skating in the Eiffel Tower look pretty wicked awesome. (ducking)
Is that really you on the far right...or just a joke...about being on the Right?
He even speaks the language!
Definitely would not want to get checked into the boards on that thing but, it is an awesome idea, no doubt thunk up by an Englishman.
How brilliant! Summer Olympics on ice :-) Will muSlimes be in charge of F'n France by then?

The latter. But it could have been me when I worked at 1 Beacon St.
Darn this weather.
Hope you do not have a bad commute to get to Beacon Street.
