Good points...but he has been in law enforcement himself, and was working for the government and the coalition authority in Iraq...this should already have come up.
But, as you say, if it was years ago and he was unaware of what happened while he was off somewhere, I can see how it could easily have slipped through.

No you don't. You would have known exactly who was caring for your kids and I doubt it would have been someone breaking the law.
