Polish Senate approves gay partnership rights measure

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s upper house of parliament approved a bill last week that would allow gay couples to gain legal partnership rights, immediately drawing sharp criticism from the nation’s powerful Roman Catholic Church. The Senate voted 38-23 with 15 abstentions to send the draft to the lower house, or Sejm, where the bill was expected to meet resistance. If it becomes law, the bill would allow gay couples to register with city or town officials, which would give them inheritance rights and other legal guarantees — but not the right to adopt children. Sen. Maria Szyszkowska, a member of Prime Minister Marek Belka’s Democratic Left Alliance who authored the bill, said the decision marks the “start of building tolerance in Poland.” But Father Jerzy Kloch, spokesperson for the Polish Episcopate, blasted the measure, saying it violates Poland’s constitution, which says “a marriage is a union between a man and a woman.” “If this bill was implemented it would bring irreparable social damage for marriage and family and upbringing of children,” Kloch said.

Ping.

Sad to see that Poland has caved. I have a lot of respect for the Polish people, but not much for their government now.

"not much for their government now."

Neither have I, even more, as I'm Polish.
Our Senate is now dominated by post-commies. That's why they passed that law. But first of all - to become a real law - it must be passed by the Sejm (lower chamber of the Parliament) and it's not very likely to happen.

I'm stunned, I figured Poland would have been the last place where this could have happened. Granted, the Sejm most likely won't pass it. I'm curious what impact this could have in the next election, I would not be shocked that this could result in a return to power for the Right in Poland, if they can get their act together.

Other countries at least have the sense to leave children out of this disaster. In America, we offer up our children as our first sacrifice to this immoral cause. Pitiful.

I am against all of the so-called "gay rights" measures. And the worst, it seems, is giving homosexuals the right to adopt. I was very encouraged when Jeb Bush hung tough on that one. A lot of pressure coming at him and his brother from the other side on such issues...

Generally there are three leftist parties in Poland and according to recent polls UP has 2% support, SDPL 4% and SLD 5%.
Here is the source, but only in Polish.

5% in elections is needed to have any seats in Parliament, so they are fighting for survive and every vote is extremely important for them. They know that this will be rejected in the Sejm, but anyway they will probably get a few more votes from homosexuals and this is all about it.

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

Anyone have any idea if the lower house is likely to reject this bill? Considering what I've read about Polish attitude towards homosexuality - remember happened at the first "Gay Rights" parade a few months ago - I am surprised at this vote.

I hope it goes down in flaming (no pun intended) defeat.

Let me and ItsOurTimeNow know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

I just noticed that the only reason this crap passed was because there were 15 abstentions. Cowards.

I seriously doubt the lower house will ok it.

Because homosexual acts are unhealthy, abnormal, and immoral. A person who experiences sex desire for members of the same sex has a psychological dysfunction, usually caused by childhood trauma such as molestation or rape, or a broken home.

There are tens of thousands of former homosexuals. There is no need to continue to suffer from homosexual attraction. You can change, and have a happier future with a real family life ahead of you.

BTW, FreeRepublic does not exist for you or any other homosexual promoters to do your promotion.

JFYI.
