Mom's Boyfriend Has Taken Lie Detector Test
POSTED: 4:52 am EST December 9, 2004 UPDATED: 8:26 am EST December 9, 2004
COLUMBUS -- Police say they're treating the disappearance of 5-year-old Columbus area girl as a kidnapping after two days of searching with dogs and helicopters failed to turn up any trace of her.
Emily Rimel vanished from her bed in her home in the Columbus suburb of Madison Township early Tuesday morning.
Her mother's boyfriend, Brent Copley, said he put the child to bed shortly after midnight and she was gone when her mother, Jane, returned home from her overnight job.
Madison Township police say Copley has undergone polygraph and voice-stress analysis testing since the disappearance. The results are being analyzed by the FBI.
Authorities took a mattress, cushions, sheets and towels from the apartment Wednesday as possible evidence.
Warrants to search the car of Copley's friend, Lindsey Bruce, who had stayed at the apartment from Monday night until early Tuesday, and other undisclosed locations also were filed.
Authorities are trying to prove or disprove people's whereabouts, Madison Township police Chief Greg Ryan said. He said no one has been ruled out as a suspect, nor has any motive been determined.
Searchers, who used dogs to look for Emily on Tuesday, employed a helicopter Wednesday, combing an approximately one-square-mile area of woods north of the Rimel apartment and near the Madison Elementary School, where Emily began attending kindergarten classes in September.
"She's missing, and I'm scared. We're all scared," Emily's maternal grandmother, Mary Schimpf, said Wednesday as she choked back tears.
"We want her back safe. We want it to end, and we want it to end soon."
Rimel is 3 feet tall and about 48 pounds. She is white and has brown hair and eyes. She was wearing a red and orange striped shirt and purple spandex pants.

Fox News is all over this story, finally. Someone with more familiarity please enlighten me as to what criteria this case did not meet with regard to keeping this child on Amber Alert.
Bad news in Ohio ping.
Apparently the amber alert was called off due to the fact that they found the man they had believed Emily was with/taken by. I am not sure why, after he was cleared of any wrong doing, the alert was called off due to that. I get the feeling that the police may know more than they are releasing. Hope that helps.
Mother, mother's boyfriend, boyfriend's friend ... another poor child living with a crowd of irresponsible "adults."
I hope they find her safe and well, soon.
This is terrible incompetence, unless the boyfriend threw bad polygraph readings, has a record, etc.
That's what I was thinking too, but I would have thought that they would have reinstated it. Then again, I've never heard of one being put back into place :/ Have you moved back to this area yet?
bd I hope you're right. It feels like an eternity since she's disappeared already.
Dear God please bless and protect this little girl. Please keep her in Your safety and Love. Please comfort her until she can be returned to her Mother. Please keep her Mother in Your Calm Peace. We ask these blessings in the Name of Jesus Christ, our only Redeemer. Thank you God. Amen.
The same jury that convicted 30-year-old Fred Mundt for murdering, raping, and kidnapping seven year old Brittany Hendrickson has passed the ultimate sentence in Noble County. The jury in the Fred Mundt murder trial has condemned the 30-year-old to die for brutually raping, beating, and then murdering 7-year-old Brittany Hendrickson by stuffing her in a well and then dropping rocks on her until she drowned. The sentence came down at 9:00 a.m. Friday. Brittany's mother, Misty Hendrickson, gasped when the verdict was read. She reportedly did not want a sentence of death because she shares a newborn child with Mundt. link
Please pray for the safe return of this little lost girl who has been missing in Ohio for over two days now.
Argh.
When I watched the interview with the mother and aunt this morning, my immediate reaction was that the mother was lying, and that she knows what happened to her little girl.

Is she nuts????? This is one of the most bizarre things I have read in a long while.
Something IS rotten about the mother (maybe I just have issues with her living situation)...this is one of those situations where I almost hope that this is a non-custodial parent case.
Yep, we moved back to Columbus in August to be closer to my mother-in-law who has been ill. This happened very close to where we now live. It makes my skin crawl. I hate to say this, but I cannot wait to move out of the city of Columbus and back to the country. It's a mess here. The city is on a downward spiral in many areas. Not all areas mind you, and I still think some of the nicest people I have met live in Ohio. :)
I think something is up with the mother and the boyfriend as well. Something sounds fishy, but not enough details are being released to know what it is.
