WASHINGTON - The liberal group MoveOn.org threw down a challenge to the Democratic Party yesterday, saying it should stop cuddling up to corporate America and shun "professional election losers." In a stinging rebuke to departing Democratic National Committee boss Terry McAuliffe, the group called on Democrats to pick a Washington outsider to take over leadership of the party.
"In the last year, grass-roots contributors like us gave more than $300 million to the Kerry campaign and the DNC, and proved that the party doesn't need corporate cash," said MoveOn PAC Political Director Eli Pariser in an E-mail message.
"Now it's our party: we bought it, we own it and we're going to take it back."
The message particularly hit McAuliffe, a Clinton-era holdover known for his fund-raising prowess.
"For years, the party has been led by elite Washington insiders who are closer to corporate lobbyists than they are to the Democratic base. But we can't afford four more years of leadership by a consulting class of professional election losers."
"I suppose some people could say it's disappointing to break every fund-raising record, out-raise the Republicans and do so through primarily grass-roots fund-raising - but I can't imagine many would agree," said DNC spokesman Jano Cabrera.
Senior party officials suggested MoveOn is out of touch with the Democrats' move to the center. "When you take the long view, they didn't help the Kerry campaign with their shrill message," said one top Democrat.

......if a football team has a decades long losing histroy....you replace the coaches, the GM, and all the executive positions...... A better idea is to rename the "team," to paper over its long losing streak. I suggest the Dims rename themselves the Know-Nothing Party.

from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know-Nothings
The Know-Nothing movement was a nativist American political movement of the 1850s. It grew up as a popular reaction to the large numbers of immigrantsmostly Irish Roman Catholicsentering the United States starting in the late 1840s, and was characterized by calls for a number of measures to maintain the United States as a nation of Anglo-Saxon Protestants.
I don't think the DUmmiecrats want the USA to be a nation of Anglo-Saxon protestants :-)

Reading about the Dem congresscritters lining up to support Kofi Annan..it reminds me just after the House voted to impeach Clinton, they all bussed up to the WH..had that rally on the lawn..Gore called Clinton the greatest president ever..or some such rot..had they instead told Clinton to go resign, Gore would have been elected easily in 2000 ( Gawd help us)..Tey're now repeating the same mistake..flying in the face of polls showing that 2/3's of Americans thinkt he UN is anti-ASmerican..so, who jumps out in front, takes the point, on the "Save Kofi" brigades?"..you guessed itr..

"For years, the party has been led by elite Washington insiders who are closer to corporate lobbyists than they are to the Democratic base,"For all the ruckus to keep Nader off state ballots, it looks like they picked up Nader's torch and want to run with it.

Karl Rove sure knows the political landscape, and how to tap into it.
Those who fail to look at the 2004 election results as a "strategy" do so at their peril.
