WITH the CBS News investigation of Memogate almost done, Mary Mapes, the producer who obtained the fake memos used in Dan Rather's George Bush-bashing report, is fighting to save her job and her reputation. The sleuths at ratherbiased.com report Mapes wrote up a 68-page statement in her own defense and has been lobbying to convince the CBS probers that Rather's exposé on Bush's National Guard service was accurate, even if the documents obtained from a crackpot Texas Democrat were bogus. Rather acted preemptively by quitting as the "Evening News" anchor.

If Burkett turns vicious against Mapes/Blater/60 Minutes/c BS on a NBC, CBS will quickly label him as a whacko.
[addendum] This is going to become veddy interestink before it's over with. Of particular interest is who actually created the fake docs. Will this be covered by nbc if Burkett was the faker himself. Just a hunch, but I think there's more to the docs than just Burkett and cbs.

ROFL!
A very good Toon!
Richard, is Mary a lesbian? If so, that will explain a lot.
Every time I see that I read thru the cycle a few times.....got to catch aaaaALL the detail....it's a big load....they got away with this crap for 40+ years........
Actually, Ernest they/CBS have been getting by with ever since CBS went National with the tv news and maybe before then.
One can only wonder what other lies besides this one and Nam that CBS and the net not news departments got by with.
Seriously.
Yep all the evidence was forged and planted but the defendant has still failed to prove that he didn't commit a crime.
Yep, the schmucks will rally around each other.
I have absolutely no idea. I needed something that rhymed with Candy Man.
Several FReepers took out their main mast but now it is time to volley below the waterline.
Five years the Mapeist spent on this garbage and what - Five dinky days Dan Rather and his high-priced staff idiots spent on it before his broadcast?
How many minutes before three FReepers smelled something rotten and the game was afoot?
CBS and the other lib media pimps are trapped on their own battered little sinking ship and the PJ People are out here in the millions on the internet and talk radio and a few print sources about to fire broadsides until they join the hungry fishes.
I do agree however; Rather, Mapes, CBS, NYT, and Boston Globe are guilty of conspiring to "knowingly and wilfully" unlawfully "fix" a Presidential election.
Rather and Mapes will be remembered thru history centuries from now as common scummy felons hiding behind a 1st Ammendment right for the press that actually does not exist in many cases.
Now the media is going bonkers screaming that web "bloggers" (FR is not a blog!) and internet users are actually talking to each other and might say something that the Old MSM jerks have not vetted and that "could do political damage" and so must be censored, licensed, regulated, banned, etc.
Good luck MSM and Congress!
I use an email forwarding service out of Hong Kong and I doubt they can control that or and websites hosted abroad.
Even my liberal NYC sister sees the network and print media attempting to shut down the web as a Hitlerian book-burning Nazi scheme.
Several of my own modest webpages with a bit of Free Republic sprinkled in have changed quite a bit of her old MSN/NYT/NPR attitude.
Compare the average FReeper or LDotter or LGF or other site regual member with the cross section of who watches network news on CBS or watches 60 Minutes.
There is no comparison is there?
On the web anyone is going to get and instant correction or rebuke or addition if there comments are not exactly correct (and often from some no matter how well you researched and posted!) - Interactive editing in mere seconds by the PJ People.
This scare the tar out of the supposedly "expert journalists", many of whom you would be shocked at their crummy education, who know say you dumb citizen just do not have the smarts or credentials to be a progressive press pimp.
Damn the tortillas!
Full Coronas ahead!
Thanks for the ping!
Probably more truth to your Graphic Arts Comments than any of her hit pieces against GW.
"is fighting to save her job and her reputation"
I'm sorry, did you say reputation?
heh,heh. Poetic license, eh? Werksferme.

Hey, I figure if they can do it to Alexander the Great...
Did you notice the last time they called the midweek show 60 Minutes II was the evening of the broadcast based on forged documents? When the **** began to hit the fan, they renamed the show, "60 Minutes Wednesday," as though they could fool us PJ people and inhabitants of flyover red states with a name change.
No! I had not heard that.
They can run...but they can't hide!
lol
