Yesterday on RIGHTALK RADIO my guest was Jami Lund from the EVERGREEN FREEDOM FOUNDATION.
We discussed EFF's role in helping Landmark Legal with their IRS complaint against the NEA, the lastest activity in fighting the unions, and a wonderful way to help the Boy Scouts and stick it to the unions.
Teachers have a right to demand a refund from their union for those monies used to fund political activity. A few years ago, I helped a teacher friend get back over $300 of about an $800 annual dues bill.
But there is something even better than that. Supported by federal law, a teacher may take a "religious exemption." If a teacher has a sincere problem with the teaching of a homosexual agenda or other areas of concern, the teacher may give ALL of the dues money to a charity. They have to present the case to their union and prove that it is sincere.
How wonderful would it be for teachers to be sending their dues to the Boy Scouts instead of the unions?
Contact a teacher and get the ball rolling. Please see what you can do to help get Jami on some major talk shows. This effort could do some damage to the unions. That is a good thing. Hillary will be counting on them in 2008.
The money can go to any recognized charity. To go to the Scouts, however, would even be more delicious.
BUMP!
Mega-Bump for the Boy Scouts!
If you know a teacher who is disgusted with the union activities for the DemocRATS, tell him the good news.
and going on the OFFENSIVE vs. the NEA & its puppet chapters:
"the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) allows employees to call for a special election to get rid of the union as their exclusive representative. This is called a Decertification Election, because employees revoke the unions "certification" to be the exclusive bargaining representative. In effect, the union is voted out of the workplace...Many state bargaining laws that apply to state and local government employees or public school employees also have analogous procedures for decertification, which are summarized here.)
"A decertification election has only one purpose and effect: to remove the union as the exclusive bargaining representative of the employees. A decertification election is different from a "deauthorization" election. A deauthorization election has only one purpose and effect: to remove the union security forced-unionism clause from the contract. In a deauthorization election, the union remains as the exclusive bargaining representative, and the collective bargaining agreement remains in effect, except for the forced unionism clause...."

Bump!
Thanks for the post. I've been meaning to look into this but wasn't sure where to get the specifics.
Bump and ping.
Great link! We have to encourage teacher friends to do this on a large scale.
