Bottom line is there is a problem and it isn't being fixed. If you support the troops then everyone will ask that the administration EQUIPS them to fight this war.
That is the bottom line...
Support our troops at all cost.
"Bottom line is there is a problem and it isn't being fixed."
I disagree. It IS being fixed. It's being done as fast as can be done with what's left of the infrastructure to provide such protection to my fellow soldiers. After 8 years of Clinton we were left with ONE ammunition plant to provide bullets for our M-16 and other machine guns. And not jsut bullets for combat...they provide them for the new recruits and for the training of units about to deploy.
There were two years where there was nothing spent on procurement.
In a nutshell when W took office in 2001 the Military Cupboard was literally bare.
We've needed extra protection for our HUMMVEE's since I was in Somalia. We were susecptable to these kids of attacks way back then.
IMHO...the short turn around on the fix for our HUMMVEE's has been remarkable. The speed with which it's gotten to the units is just as impressive. Are there still some units that need armor? Yes. Will they get it as fast as humanly possible? Yes.
Instead of blaming the gov't for this problem...maybe some Senator or Congree Critter in a rustbelt state with shuttered factories need to propose a way to open those factories back up to make more armored Hummers than the 400 a month that are able to be turned out at the one plant doing it today.
It would kill two birds with one stone. More armored HUMMVEE's would get to the troops faster and unemployed workers would have jobs again.
