At Least 3 Dead, 4 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

POSTED: 10:32 pm EST December 8, 2004 UPDATED: 11:36 pm EST December 8, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least three people died and four others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

I was just poking fun, it isn't me to trash someone's musical taste :-)

Someone needs to let Savage know so that he can't talk some more about how rap music makes people shoot each other.

Rap "music" is not real music. It's just juvenile street lyrics that sometimes make sense, but usually do not. It's what on in between the stations that are playing real music. When I was in 4th grade I could write similar "music", only mine was better. Then I moved on to the sax and piano, and, well, grew up.

The troops who listen to this music are all in need of lecturing and education when they come back. They MUST BE TOLD....OVER AND OVER about the murderous culture our troops who listen to metal are taking part in. /sarcasm off

This attack on Metal music is really Leftist in nature. It's analogous to guns causing people to kill each other, and I have NO use for it.

They're a bunch of lefties though. Re: Queensryche.

Oh sh**. You had to go and burst my bubble. But I should've known. You don't advance thru the music industry unless you're PC with the leftie insiders.

Yeah, I heard (I think on FR) that their new Mindcrime tour was anti-Bush. That's why I didn't go see it when they were touring through my area.

their new Mindcrime tour was anti-Bush

How in gawd's name can they work Bush into a scenario that includes Mother Mary the hooker, Father William the pimp, and the hero shooting up before he goes out dong dirty deeds as a robotic killer?

I thought the whole thing was about sex, myself (tee hee).

I wouldn't play the VHS (Mindcrime) anymore, I think it's worth some money, ~$60 last time I looked.

Finally, I found something I can hawk on ebay!

I'm not sure myself. I read they worked W into the routine though. No way was I gonna be at a club half drunk watching them trash W. All the anti metal people who are worried about music provoking violence, that would have been it lol.

Apprently his reported conversion changed some other areas of his life, too. I've heard from various sources that he has moved from moderate libertarian to a more conservative mindset, esp. post 9/11.

I'm still pi**ed about the news that Queensryche is attacking Bush on their latest tour. And I gave this band mucho support in the 80's, buying all their albums, even the one that came out about 5 years after Mindcrime when they were in a slump...album was fairly mediocre and I wrote them off. They kind of disappeared from the charts.

Guess you have to do a Linda Ronstadt to get a following nowadays.

I bet half of their anti Bush desires was fueled because it was 'fashionable' this year. No excuse for what they did, but I'm sure it played a role. I'll still listen to and enjoy their music, but I can assure you I won't be buying it again ;-).

"Both rock and metal can have angry, dark, and violent lyrics, and dysfunctional drug-addled musicians."

And cRappers kill one another, and riot at the Vibe Awards. Metalheads may be self-destrctive, but they generally limit their abuse to themselves. cRappers apparently look at murdering one another as one way to climb the career ladder.

"Rap is the devil, while metalheads just sing about worshipping Satan right? LOL!"

Your words, not mine. I don't believe I ever mentioned Satan...I'm talking about crime here.

"One genre wasn't morally superior to the other. Neither is Gosphel music."

Well, let's see now...some music deals with love of God (Gospel), other music deals a lot with love of family and nation (country), other music deals with depression, suicidal thoughts, and sometimes Satan (metal), while another genre that doesn't even fit the definition of music (cRap is all rhythm, with no melody or harmony) deals with slapping "hos" around, "bustin a cap" in mofos who touch my Escalade, blaming Bush for 9-11, and other such socially redeeming topics. Yeah, even though I don't listen to Gospel and country, I'd have to say they're definitely more moral than metal or cRap.

"Give it a rest."

Never.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Very anti Bush.

Thanks, I'm off to check out that link. By the way, my local paper had an article about how tough the club scene is this year. That the big concert booking agencies have raised prices thru the roof in order to drive out their competition (the other booking agencies). The result has been that people go to fewer concerts, and only one out of ten club concerts is a financial success.
