At Least 3 Dead, 4 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots
POSTED: 10:32 pm EST December 8, 2004 UPDATED: 11:36 pm EST December 8, 2004
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least three people died and four others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.
The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.
Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.
Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.
Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.
Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.
According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.
Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.
last night on the damageplan messageboard there were some if this guy's friends asking if anybody at the show knew if he was alright since they couldn't get a hold of him. It is strange that the only person that any friends posted about was the one who died.
Not all Christians are that way, in my experience the judgemental ones are those who 'play' at being Christians rather than those for whom Christ has changed thier life. There is a big difference between 'religion' and 'faith', and those who are judgemental tend to rely on 'religion'. There are some good churches out there. Don't give up on us yet.
Not as much as you'd think...
Nope...and I thought Manowar were silly, even back then. :)
Great post. I agree that Dimebag was one of the greatest. What a bitch to have to say was.
I'm 47 so for me ....Hendrix and LZ were metal....Deep Purple and Mountain too...and even some Tull.
I do like the new Scandinavian metal trance stuff Okliplot(?)
Led Zeppelin was so under produced compared to today's music, they were practically folk music. Which in fact they were to a certain extent since a lot of their songs were ripped off from old blues musicians. Not that I don't like LZ.
Thank you, evets. I see he played a Dean way back then also.
I'll try to FReep mail ya. I'm in the middle of trying to fight with this dumb 'puter that keeps screwing up. LOL...God didn't make me a computer whiz but He DID give me the 'mind of Christ'...so I reckon I'll conquer this machine!
*chuckle*
I have no idea how to spell that either.
I understand. I've been there too. :)
it's illegal in most states... but the main point is that people who are licensed to concealed carry don't generally pull this crap... they're the ones that stop the crime in progress...
I agree with you, g'nad!
I think a bar where everyone is heavily armed would be a bar with no bar fights!
No! I'll have to check it out on amazon.com.
Are we officially "old" yet?
Tee hee, you're only as old as you feel! Seriously, I'm gonna have to get out that old VHS tape of "Operation: Mindcrime" with its song "I Don't Believe in Love"...their musical production about the assassin. The new generation that was raised on RAP doesn't know what it's missing!
I used to tape those suckers and watch them all week thru. I only kept a few of those tapes. Thought the show would go on forever, who woulda thought that the music industry would declare that metal was dead.
To me, Seattle meant Queensryche. But there soon came a time, for the music world, that Seattle meant Kurt Cobain and his grunge music. Oh well!
They've been giving their best to the music for decades. That's what makes this shooting so tragic, that one sh**head with a attitude problem can eradicate someone's life and career just like (snap) that.
I loved(still do)Queensryche back then. LOL I'm starting to feel old now.
Remember that commercial (battery commercial?) about the groupies waiting backstage for the band? Hundreds of females when the band is twenty-something. A cast of three middle-aged ladies when the band is bald and pot-bellied.
My point being, the rockers are still rocking, and there's always fans still listening somewhere!
