SAN DIEGO -- The City Council certified the results of a hotly contested mayoral election on Wednesday, and Mayor Dick Murphy was sworn in for a second term.
The council voted 6-1 to accept the county registrar's results from the Nov. 2 election that showed Murphy, a Republican, leading write-in candidate and Democratic Councilwoman Donna Frye by 2,108 votes.
Murphy called on San Diegans "to put aside the rancor of this election" and work for the good of the city.
Frye cast the lone vote against certifying the results.
A state appeals court on Tuesday cleared the way for Murphy to take the oath when it lifted an order that blocked certification.
It was unclear, however, whether the dispute was over. The certified tally -- Murphy with 34.5 percent, Frye with 34.1 percent and Republican Ron Roberts, a San Diego County supervisor, with 31 percent -- excluded ballots on which voters wrote Frye's name but failed to darken the adjoining oval.

Frye is such a flake even the democrat city councilmen
went along with the republican mayor
"Frye is such a flake "
Truer words have seldom been said.
Before the election She was very specific in talking about the write in vote. I remember her saying that to be a valid ballot you must fill in the little oval. She was concerned that " that is the rules". Now to heck with the rules " Every vote must be counted!!"
Hey Babe, what happened to the rules?
Shouldn't always encourage Demonrats to whine and howl and protest and contest everything, so as to make sure they alienate as many ordinary people as possible?
