I freakin' love it......"He's an exceptional young man and he's my son," she said. "I know he's not perfect ... but he is genuinely a loving, caring, nurturing, kind, gentle person.".....to everyone except his 9 month pregnat wife and unborn child that is....he killed them in cold blood. Apart from that small detail he's a wonderful person!!!
A frail-looking Jackie Peterson (search) tearfully pleaded with jurors Wednesday to spare her son's life, saying that "if you were to take Scott away from us ... we would lose a whole family."
"It would be like Laci never existed," she said, crying so hard at times she was unintelligible.
While defense lawyers flashed Peterson family photographs on a large screen, Jackie Peterson, who uses a portable oxygen tank for a lung ailment, begged jurors to see the good in her son.
"He's an exceptional young man and he's my son," she said. "I know he's not perfect ... but he is genuinely a loving, caring, nurturing, kind, gentle person."
Scott Peterson (search) wiped tears from his eyes as his mother testified.
Defense lawyers are trying to convince jurors that Peterson deserves life in prison, not the death penalty.
The 32-year-old former fertilizer salesman was convicted Nov. 12 of two counts of murder for killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and her fetus.
Prosecutors say he killed Laci in their Modesto home on or around Christmas Eve 2002, then dumped her body into San Francisco Bay. The remains of Laci and the fetus were discovered about four months later near where Peterson claims to have been fishing alone the day his wife vanished

I figure "life" for Peterson would be about six minutes.
Scott should have thought that out a year ago, but I guess he thought he was so smart that he'd never get caught.
They had the obligatory neighbor on yesterday. Basically she said she was against the death penalty. She got up from the defense side, made her comments, then went over to the prosecution side and hugged Sharon Rocha.
Was that an attempt to imply that Sharon Rocha agrees with her.
Folks said the same thing about Ted Bundy.
And that charmer John Wayne Gacy was a clown at children's parties.
Perhaps that family should be read the definition of "sociopath" again. Because I understand the new editions of the dictionary have Scott's picture as an illustration.
Don't most people dye their hair, grow a goatee, chat up their mistress, try to sell their house and car, take a new identity, $15,000 and head for the border?
BARF!
I guess the "Age Appropriate Missing Spouse Behavior For Dummies" was sold out at Borders.
He would have gottten away if he'd just had a white Bronco
I agree. When all the family dynamics of the Peterson's are known, and they will be, the parents complicity in this crime will emerge.
Maybe the Rochas and Ron Grantski should have some police protection. I wouldn't put it passed Lee P'sin to hire someone to hurt them.
Death row is probably the safest place in the world for the POS. If he's release into general population, dudes will be killing each other for the chance to get at Scott.
Whoever kills Scott gets to be famous. He's such a dead man if he gets life.
I doubt it. Eventually they will take it out on Scott. If he lives.
What do you mean they'll take it out on Scott? Have you followed this case? Do you understand this family dynamic?
Ok, and even though what about 20 years ago the death sentance has been reallowed, how many have met their makers in Calif?
Just guessing. After a while the familial protection will turn to resentment. I assume that the Peterson family hocked all they had to pay for Scott's defense. It's all going to eventually grind on them. As well, someone will probably write a book and analyze all the dynamics of this sad tale.
I know marked men don't last long inside.
I know Peterson is a marked man.
Why is that maudlin soap opera NATIONAL news???? When it's over Greta Van Suteren will have nothing to blabber on about. Maybe she can have the 10 year reunion special in 2014
Not in this co-dependent/enabling family.
