OLYMPIA -- Gov. Gary Locke and legislative Democrats proposed Wednesday that Washington adopt California's vehicle-emission standards, the toughest in the world.
Locke, a two-term Democrat who leaves office in January, also announced a freeze on state government purchase of four-wheel-drive sports utility vehicles. The state motor pool will begin shifting to hybrid vehicles.
The proposal to adopt California's auto standards, effective the 2009 model year, is the centerpiece of the lame-duck governor's package of bills to combat global warming.

It would seem that he's taken lessons from Gray Davis regarding causing lasting mischief during the final days of his administration.

Any news on the recount for the govenors race? Anyone challenging the dead and/or felons?

Totalitarian at its core. There isn't any proof that auto emissions create greenhouse gases that over time raise the temperature on Earth. It's extreme paranoia and it's all about one imposing their power on another group of individuals.

Stand by for big jumps in WA gas prices if this passes. Here in San Diego, we pay some of the highest prices in the country and are "down" to $2.27/gallon this week (the US average is reportedly $1.97/gal.) Prices across California are much higher on average than other parts of the country, thanks in no small part to that oh-so-special blend of gas we are forced to buy.

I'm glad we're finally done with him, he's even been suggesting new taxes in the next biennium. Dino Rossi says, hold on here, we don't need them. I just hope he survives the court battles, that's where the recount is going to be won or lost.

Locke has the eco-lobby whispering junk science in his ear. If he really wants to reduce green house
gasses he better find a way to stop Washington's
biggest polluter.

Washington is a wonderfully beautiful state. I was really hoping that more of the idiot liberals there would emigrate to Canada and the government there might regain some rationality.

Thanks but no thanks, I live in WA State and I don't want to adopt anything that California does. H E L L O!! It is ridiculous, last year my car had a service engine light on and it wouldn't pass the emission already in place in WA until I got it fixed (even though they never actually tested my vehicles emissions). I got it fixed and went back for my test, the amount spent to fix this stupid little light exceeded the mandatory $500 to fix emissions and I was given my tags (without my emissions ever being tested). Idiots!!

Lame duck for sure, with his lame ass proposals that would cost the taxpayers a fortune.....

Indeed. It's also about cronyism and neo-Mercantilism (favoritism to selected industries).

Yeah, but by your logic:
If you happened to live below a major mountain range in the floodplain and I had a dam in that floodplain, I could (for all I care) let all the water out during a major flood because the upstream cause(s) of the flood would be bigger than the release of water...
Silly logic.

the centerpiece of the lame-duck governor's package of bills Reality check! These have to go through the legislature after it convenes in January, and be signed by the new governor.
You don't like them? Find out who your legislator is (FReepmail me if you need to), contact them, and tell them you don't like this.
You can make a difference. A couple years back I wrote a letter to a legislator (who does not represent me) showing him how a bill of his would have the exact opposite effect of what he intended. As a result, he killed his own bill in his own committee.
