ACTION ALERT

It is not a foregone conclusion that Arlen Specter will be the next chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. It is well within the rights of the Senate Judiciary Committee members to nominate, and the Senate Republicans to award the Judiciary Committee chairmanship to a pro-life, anti-homosexual marriage, pro-second amendment traditionalist .

Arlen Specter is pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-human cloning, pro-homosexual rights, and played a key role in defeating Robert Bork's nomination to the Supreme Court. He must be defeated. Please take action right away.

1. CONTACT JUDICIARY COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND ASK THEM TO REJECT ARLEN SPECTER'S BID FOR THE CHAIRMANSHIP

Urge the Judiciary Committee members listed below to support Senator John Kyl of Arizona for Chairman, so that the anti-Specter forces are not divided among several of the other contenders thus giving Specter a better chance of winning. Kyl has the most seniority after Specter, excepting Grassley who doesn't want the job because he wants to maintain his position as chairman of the Finance Committee.

I understand. As a "Keyester" type, though, I probably have a higher tolerance than most. This was one short and sweet, though.

Frankly, it's the slavish, starry-eyed threads for which I no longer have a tolerance.

Do you not realize that abortion is a GOP policy, Anna? No cynicism necessary. Anyone who heard the smug note in Specter's voice on NPR as he brushed aside the red herring Roe and alluded to the "1992 decision by conservative justices appointed by Republic Presidents" oughta be looking for some answers by now.

Regardless what Gore might have had to say behind closed doors during his speech on "Population Reduction" for Gorby & Co., somehow I fail to see how it could be anymore sickeningly straightforward than the GOP's talk of "genetic/hereditary quality" and the "moral" need to undo the damage wrought by well-intentioned social programs which ended up causing "down breeding."

The GOP laid the foundation for wresting purview over abortion from the states by pointing out the "economic discrimination" that was forcing the poor (who most needed abortions) to travel to another state to procure a legal one.

And they were the first to note in national defense memoranda that "abortion was vital to the solution" of population control at home and abroad. (Their pet eugenicist Dr. Handler testified that "immunology" held great promise in this respect where combating the greatest threat to mankind -- Human Reproduction -- was concerned.)

But most interesting of all was the way the Republicans requeseted over 300 million in 1970 dollars to "educate" the American public such that they would demand as rights the implements of population control it would be awkward -- if not outright immoral -- to force upon them.

It's that last which haunts me, of course.

As the Senate prepares to approve the Ministry of Information/Intelligenze Czar legislation Bush undoubtedly will sign and which will afford the "former Soviets" and the "former Stasi" generals now directing our Homeland Defense Department a structure and array of powers with which they are more accustomed,

... and as the Republican Senate votes -- to a man -- in favor of biometric national IDs,

... and as the Republican Congress passes 388 billion in which folks like Dyncorp get millions to distribute US-AIDS to Africa while NYC firemen get some medals and US Soldiers (paid a 1/3 or 1/6th of what our Private Contractors get) pick through trash heaps for scrap metal to repair their vehicles ...

I think we're all going to wish we paid more attention to the threads like this one instead of the Feel Good, Fools Rush In, "Faithbased" sort of threads. Just a hunch.

There are those who think "everything changed" on 911. Mark my words ... we ain't seen nothing yet.

The Democrat incumbent (Tanner) had a less-than-satisfactory record, so I had to do some research online to find out. It took a several hours of digging and a couple of queries to FR, and I learned that his county Republican Party had repudiated him and encouraged people to write-in another Republican who was pro-life, Bertrand. I wrote Bertrand in; although he didn't get much of a showing and the incumbent (Tanner) was re-elected.

I'll credit the Shelby County GOP for speaking out in the end, but the prominence of abortion advocacy in GOP campaigns and policy is alarming.

This guys sounds like he's got a real future whether he hitches his star to the Old Guard or shares Whoreowitz's "Progressive Vision" for the Party.

I think last count at "The Pill" website was 46% of American women on abortifacient birth control ... for starters.

I strongly suspect most Christians rigorously contracept anyway. (Either that or even the Catholics are hardly ever having sex anymore.)

Done deal, really. It's just that they've yet to make the connection -- That Leap of Faith in Their Own Will over God's Will -- and take their Proper Planning of God's blessing "for the sake of the children" to its logical ends.

When I look at the number of women availing themselves of the Wichita abortionists' blessing ceremonies or the abortion Masses of WomynChurch, it doesn't seem a great leap to euthanize a kid who's suffering intensely and has no Hope.

(Hope's a Christian commission short in supply ... as opposed to Optimism, which is a totally different ballgame, of course.)

After all, we're not EXACTLY God yet though we're pretty sure we can spot His mistakes as easily as we can the suffering he doles out on anyone who crosses us.

Hope is available for people to claim through Jesus Christ, but if they spurn it they may lose the opportunity to get it again.

I had a pretty rough week last week -- worst in I don't know when, actually. Luckily, I'd been rationing Gabriel Marcel's HOMO VIATOR: INTRODUCTION TO A METAPHYSIC OF HOPE to myself and had it handy on the shelf behind my bed night before last.

Specter helped defeat the nomination of conservative Jeff Sessions for a federal judgeship.

Specter warned filibustered appeals court nominee William Pryor that just because he voted for him on the committee did not mean that he would vote on the Senate floor for his confirmation.

The “National Review” exposed Specter as “The Worst Republican Senator” in a prominent September 1, 2003 cover story. According to “National Review,” Specter “is not a team player…is an abortion rights absolutist, a dogged advocate of racial preferences, a bitter foe of tax reform, a firm friend of the International Criminal Court.”

From the moment when he will have not only recognised in an abstract manner, but understood in the depths of his being, that is to say seen, that everything is not necessarily lost if there is no cure, it is more than likely that his inner attitude towards recovery or non-recovery will be radically changed; he will have regained the liberty, the faculty of relaxing to which we referred at length further back.

This is a good point and a consolation I take in addressing illness.

I also agree with his overall point that despair is an insult to God, because it is a refusal of the hope that He offers.

Why would I care whether or not folks agree with me? I invite into my home regularly all manner of folks diametrically opposed to me on issues of politics, faith, social issues, etc.

But I would not invite into my home the sort of smarmy, uncouth and hateful folks who showed up on this thread, that's all.

If these be exemplary of the Republicans who think to "hold feet to the fire" following elections, looks like your "moral" win was all for naught where "sending a message" or providing a Mandate was concerned.

It's not even 40 days since the election and already anyone who thinks to protest Specter is "beating a dead horse."
