Ok - so it's roughly similar to what we have here... (St. Louis, MO) For some reason I assumed it would be much colder.

So how long do they give you to adjust to the time change before you have to function like a real human being?

I'm just here for a few more minutes - baby's fed and diapered and I'm gonna get a little more sleep before the rest of the house wakes up...

How about some music?

To be honest, no time. I go in at 0630. But, I don't feel like I am not ready nor am I exhausted or anything. I guess it is tougher adjusting to an eastern move than a western one...?

Ma, you are such a wonderful mother to us kidz here at the Canteen. Not only do you keep tabs on us, remember everything about each of us, remind us of important things, make sure everyone has breakfast, or at least coffee, send a plow to clear the roads, provide fans or heaters as needed, etc., but you also decorate our houses during the holidayz! WOW! SuperMom. You're the BEST!

Bad News?

Read: Psalm 112:1-10

He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. —Psalm 112:7

Bible In One Year: Daniel 8-10; 3 John

Several years ago, before cell phones became common, a seminar leader asked the audience, "If someone came into this meeting, called your name, and said, 'You have a phone call,' would you assume that it was good news or bad news?" Most of us admitted we would think it was bad news, but we weren't sure why.

It points out a common burden many people carry—the fear of bad news. It may be a natural concern for the safety of those we love, but it can become an irrational dread of tragedy.

When we are most afraid, we most need confidence in God. Psalm 112 speaks of a person who fears the Lord, delights in His commandments, and is gracious to others (vv.1,4-5). But perhaps most striking is: "He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord" (v.7).

A hymn by Frances Havergal reminds us that a trusting heart is the answer for a worried mind: "Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest; finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest."

The Bible doesn't promise that we will never receive bad news. But it does assure us that we don't have to live each day in gnawing fear of what might happen. "His heart is established; he will not be afraid" (v.8). —David McCasland

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the Spirit there. —Havergal

Faith in the living God can take the fear out of living.

Good morning Everyone.

Good morning to our AWESOME Military, our Allies and their families. Oh, did I tell you today that you are AWESOME? I did? Well, let me say so again! AWESOME.

I am here for my morning drive-by.

First, thanks to our own Pancake chef Spotsy for opening the doors to the Canteen this morning and fixing up a nice spread. She always sets a nice table!

I hope everyone to the west of me that got a dose of the high winds yesterday made it through ok. We are expecting the high winds today. Yesterday, the fog was so bad here in DC that I couldn't even see National airport or the runway lights from across the river. It was a plain, yucky day.

Oh, BTW, I'm sure many of you have heard the news of the arson hitting a new develpment in Charles County, Maryland by now. FYI - as the crow flies that development is across the street (a country street) from where we live.

Well, gonna go for now. I want to at least get in a few Hellos this morning before getting into the work pile.

Now remember, the Canteen is always open

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's alway plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS.
