Rocking For Christ
cbs ^ | 12-7-04

The growing clout of America's 100-million evangelical Christians is being heard loud and clear. Just turn on your radio, and you'll notice that a seismic shift in American culture is taking place.

Before, you could tune into different stations, which offered different music and different messages.

But now, as Correspondent Bob Simon reports on 60 Minutes Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT,, evangelical Christian music is flowing into mainstream media -- and changing it. In fact, Christian entertainment now brings in $4 billion a year.

Rappers and rockers are making hits and making money while spreading the gospel to national audiences. Christian groups can be heard on secular radio and seen on "The Tonight Show." Earlier this year, the group Third Day even played at the Republican National Convention.

"The fact that there are Christian themes now emerging in rock and that Christians are in rock is just representative of a spiritual desire or a spiritual hunger in our culture," says Cameron Strang, publisher of Relevant Magazine, a religious publication.

That's pretty scary - the inclusion of "Gay" and "Witch" kinda negates the other part...

What was REALLY scarey is that he was serious.

That is David's personal desire for expressing thanks to God, not the congregation doing all that in corporate worship!

People who think that pandering in music will bring more people to Christ show a fundamental misunderstanding of the work of the Holy Spirit by thinking somehow we can "help" the Almighty along!

What blasphemy!

In other words, it's "blasphemy" if people want to use tools of evangelism in music any way but the way you prefer. Is that about right?

BTW, you seem to have an inability to use critical thinking skills, to realize that the NT dispensation of God's covenant of grace (and our worship of Him) is different from the OT. The NT no longer is centered around outward expressions, but internal expressions of Spirit-led worship according to God's Biblical guidelines.

"I dare you to move like today I'm arriving."

What do you think they are referring to in that song?

In any event, it is a very positive message - certainly a tremendous alternative to songs about killing cops and sexual promiscuity.

"Whether you show appreciation for a worship experience publicly or privately, I still don't know why you think God would be offended by one expression of appreciation and not the other."

Um.....because God has different requirements for different forms of worship, Einstein?

Again, please cite specific Biblical verses to substantiate your claims. Of course you can't.

Hmmm... maybe THAT'S what my pastor meant when he warned us kids in Baptist Youth Fellowship to avoid the Sins of the Flesh because it could lead to "The Clap".

He danced NAKED before the Lord. NAKED. NAKED. NAKED

Guess again, sister.

David was dancing with all his might before the Lord wearing a linen ephod . .

"And David was girded with a linen ephod." On this auspicious occasion, David laid aside his royal robes, and as taking the lead in the worship of God he wore a linen ephod. This was the ordinary garb of the priests when officiating, yet it was also used in religious exercises by those who were not priests, as the case of Samuel shows: 1 Samuel 2: 18
(Commentary by Arthur Pink).

Los Lonely Boys is yet another in a line of lyrical pandering without any kind of Christian message whatsoever, just a vague spriritual connection.

That does not please God.

Is that like a Loincloth? Cuz, I like to dance around a fire in a loincloth on occasion. Is that safe, or am I going to be Darned to Heck?

Um.....because God has different requirements for different forms of worship, Einstein?

And I'm sure God is very approving of your mocking, condescending tone, calling another Christian "Einstein" sarcastically.

Think about it. Better yet, pray about it.

If you applause right after a public performance in church, who are you clapping for?

"Do you think there is any music God would not use to speak to hearts?"

I don't think there is any style of music God cannot use if He so chooses.

Then I have to disagree with you.
God is Holy and would not reduce Himself to using "Highway to Hell" or "Spirit of the Boogie" to promote His Gospel message.
Do you know what Holy means?

Never did "get" the Elvis thing. My slightly-older cousins were crazy for him. I must have been right on the cusp or something. : )

Just what we need on a thread like this -- a flame war.

Some people on here are being very bad examples to nonbelievers that are watching this.
