[Assemblyman] Leno's measure divides Democrats: Gay marriage bill reintroduced
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Dec. 7, 2004 | Mark Martin

Sacramento -- San Francisco Assemblyman Mark Leno introduced legislation to legalize same-sex marriage Monday, opening another front in the debate -- nationwide and within the Democratic Party -- over how far to extend gay rights.

Five weeks after voters in 11 states adopted constitutional amendments defining marriage as solely between a man and woman, Leno is convinced that a majority of Californians favor bucking that trend.

There is opposition to the idea among moderate Democrats, however, and a counter to Leno's push was also introduced Monday, the first day of the legislative session. Two Republican lawmakers introduced a bill that calls for the enactment of a constitutional amendment that would not only outlaw same- sex marriage but also strip gay couples of domestic partner rights outlined in several laws adopted in the last few years.

They try to force their deviancies on everyone else, and when people reject it, they're called homophobic, rights-denying bigots who are obsessed with the bedroom behaviors of others.

This isn't about the bedroom; this is about who gets to raise kids.

Well, there is the fact that 60% of California voters defined marriage as between a man and a woman. Of course, that ever deters a blindly crusading liberal.

It's also about pensions, Social Security, death benefits, immigration status, and a huge litany of 'rights' that marriage confers that costs EVERYBODY.

Well, to them, any opposition to the homofascist agenda is an "interference in the bedroom."

It's great that this is being debated in the legislatures rather than legislated from the bench.

It's also a great issue for the Democrat Party to differentiate itself versus other political parties.

"Section 301 of the Family Code is amended to read:
301. Two unmarried persons of the age of 18 years or older who are not otherwise disqualified, are
capable of consenting to and consummating marriage."

My dictionary defines consummate as "to complete (marital union) by the first act of sexual intercourse after marriage." Sexual intercourse is a synonym for coitus, which requires one male and one female.

Just how can two persons of the same sex consummate a marriage?

These people are just perverted; they're stupid.

Hmmmmmmm. I seem to remember, oh that's right...the law that Leno is trying to overturn here that stated that marriage is between a man and woman...was also passed by the VOTERS of California!

Democrats shooting themselves in the foot again.

It's just a cover. There are a whole bedspread of other reasons, over which we should be willing to go to the mattress. < /bizarro>
