The ones responsible for this should go to PRISON for a very, very long time.

Sure looks like the work of the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) to me...

Of course, the waste material, new construction material, replacement material, and replacement trucks, tractors, disposal, and labor and fumes and destruction are worst from the 10.0 million(!) in fire than what these few homes "might" do to the nearby "precious wetlands" the eco-freaks are hysterical about....)

But the eco-freaks burned them anyway.

Yes, you can see how very concerned ELF is with the environment. Net result of their 'handiwork'... thousands of trees wasted which could have provided homes for centuries, wasted fuel and hours of labor by the construction crews, wasted brick and concrete which required energy to produce, and more pollution caused by the fire than thousands of dreaded SUV's.

ELF is a terrorist group and should be pursued as such.

Obviously this is the work of southern redneck militia racists --- no wait, did you say these are upscale houses? Not old country churches?

Will be interesting to see how long it takes the MSM to get around to investigating possible nature loving environmentalist involvement.

Could be stupid teenagers. Could be stupid thugs. Could be rich-hating libs. Could be the ELF.

...or in 2006, and 2008, at the ballot box. Everyone needs to be reminded of these terrorist acts during those campaign seasons. Lots of MOR voters like the suburbs, and are appalled by these acts.

maybe its time for some anti-enviros to head out and wreck the precious little swamp that these idiots purport to want to protect. Just destroy it. Cut down the trees, poison the water, bulldoze it. Whatever it takes. Fill it with cement for all I care.

This stuff really torques me (as you might be able to tell).

Not that I agree with their tactics, I must say I agree with wanting to get rid of suburban housing tracks. The problem is the developers are so damn cheap and greedy. Rather than building less houses and incorporating them into the landscape they come in bulldoze everthing and stick a bunch of ugly boxes up. What's with that. They are charging plenty of money for this homes and could very well make things much nicer and more environmentally friendly. Further the people that move in this homes on the edge of wilderness then complain because the wilderness and its inhabitants encroach on their homes. Also most residential developers haven't an ounce of creativity and these housing projects they develop are just plain ugly and stupid.

"Patricia Stamper, an Indian Head resident and a plaintiff in the lawsuit, said investigators had not contacted her Monday, and she doubted members any of the groups involved in the lawsuit would have turned to arson"

I am sure she is thrilled with the outcome.
Wonder how she would feel if someone tried to drive her out of her residence?

Her selfish liberal attitude is: "I've got mine - to hell with everyone else who wants to live here! Private property rights be damned!"

Man, that is the life savings of a whole lot of family's up in smoke. Hope they catch the Arson and sue his arse off, him and his buddies should flip burgers in San Quenton to pay back every dime.

If this was ELF I would be for a suit that would force their members to sell everything they own to pay this back.

The homes, in a development next to an environmental preserve, were priced between $400,000 and $500,000.

The pricey new subdivision has been ...

For the DC area this is not a pricey subdivision. It's probably a step above a "starter home" as far as new homes are concerned. I saw some of the new owners of the houses that were destroyed on local news last night and for the most part they were middle class.

Indeed!

So, these radical enviro-criminals just unleashed a few tons of carbon dioxide, cyanide gas, unburned hydrocarbons, and god knows what other greeenhouse and toxic gasses into the atmosphere - in order to save the Earth.

Their logic eludes me completely.

But wait, there's more! No Washington Post story would be complete without planting the race card. From today's fishwrap:

Hunters Brooke, built near an ecologically sensitive bog, has been a focus of dispute between environmentalists and the regulators who allowed the subdivision to be built. Many of those who have settled in Hunters Brooke, or were planning to, are African Americans purchasing homes in the $400,000 to $500,000 range in a county that is mostly white.

Authorities said yesterday that they were unsure whether the fires were set as an act of environmental extremism, as a hate crime or for some other reason.

"We still just remain very open," Maddox said. "We're just conducting a logical investigation, and anything and everything that should be considered is being considered."

Although Charles is a blue county, I have never encountered any racist people since I lived there. I am disgusted that the media always throws this out, as if it's impossible for the people of different races to live together in peace.

Just to update the early reaction to this being eco-terrorists.

Turns out it was in part due to racism. Lots of black families moving into a very white part of Maryland.

That and the fact that one of the suspects had an ax to grind with the developer -- his former employer.

The guys were drag racers -- not environmentalists in the least.
