Threatening letters critical of the interracial marriage between a Tony Award-winning white actress in the Broadway smash "Wicked" and Taye Diggs, a popular black film and TV actor, have sparked a NYPD probe and an increase in security at the famed Gershwin Theatre, sources said.
One of the letters "threatens bodily harm to Taye Diggs," according to a police source. That letter was received Wednesday by Jed Bernstein, president of the League of American Theaters and Producers, the industry's major trade group, with offices on West 47th Street.
Sources said that before Wednesday, two other handwritten letters were sent to the Gershwin Theatre, on West 51st Street, addressed to Diggs' wife, Idina Menzel, who stars there in "Wicked," a revisionist look at the "Wizard of Oz."
"The letters go on and on about their marriage," a second source says. "They say they're each a sellout to their race."

I asked a legitimate question worthy of discussion and how did you respond? With great hostility, you suggest that I am a whining, lily white bigot. Resorting to angry name calling and avoiding the issue/question I asked is the sign of someone who is not very bright. Your insults mean nothing to me. Answer the question if you can otherwise, annoy someone else.
Ouch. What a handsome couple. I didn't know who she was, but I knew he was very, very good looking.
Do you show the same hostility toward Orthodox Jews and traditional Japanese who also frown upon marrying outside their own race/culture?
The Orthodox hardly ever marry non-Jews, and those that do usually marry someone who is converting to Judaism. I cannot speak for the Japanese, but if they use the arguments that many whites do, then yes they are bigots.
What's your problem with that?
My post was about a FREeeper who sent several of us FReepmails call us race traitors and telling us about how our "dirt babies" are a stain. If you feel the same way as that FReeper, say so. He's gone now, you can be too.
You can change your religion but you can't change your skin color that's for sure.
Then logically, you must feel that Orthodox Jews are bigots as well.
Regarding the freeper who disgraced himself I will say that ALL children are innocent and deserve our protection. He was an idiot. And your threat to have me banned is just more undeserved hostility on your part. I have said nothing to engender such anger yet, you persist. I have not resorted to name calling but your replys are filled with them. Are you sure you're not a democrat?
If people want to raise their children to believe that it is somehow bad or that they will be traitors based on who they fall in love with, then they can raise bigots. It's their right. And then I have the right to call them that.
Orthodox Jews and traditional Japanese have just as much right to their beliefs as do Taye and Idina IN THIS COUNTRY! The person or persons that sent the hate filled letters to Taye and Idina are idiots and GUESSING who they are is pointless. They are cowards unlikely to act upon their threats. My guess is that this is a publicity stunt dreamed up by their, Taye and Idinas', P.R. Firm.
I hope it's not a publicity stunt. I'll add that Russell Simmon's wife gets hate mail and death threats but she doesn't take them seriously, and she's not even white. People have a right to their opinion just as long as they leave other people alone.
Lotsa folks on this thread would disagree with you Cy but, I'm not one of them. What you described is called civility.
I'm surprised that no one has asked me my opinion on the Taye/Idina marriage. Truth is I'm AGAINST their marriage. Never should have been allowed. It's always a mistake to let two ex underwear models wed. The marriage is likely to be BRIEF.
Why does it matter what color your relatives are?
Why do you care so much about color?
But then again you've already answered my original question. Thanks for playing.
Nope, there's plenty enough stupid to go around for all of us!
