WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wis.) issued the following statement regarding legislation responding to the 9/11 Commission recommendations:"I am pleased that the chain-of-command issues Chairman Duncan Hunter has raised have been resolved so that our war-fighters will not be put at risk. Unfortunately, even with these improvements, the current bill is woefully incomplete and one I cannot support.
"Americans deserve a complete bill so that we can prevent another 9/11 from occurring. Border security and immigration reform are vital components of our homeland security efforts, so why are they not included in this legislation? The time to address these issues is now, not next month, not next year. Hollow promises of future consideration are just that - hollow promises.
"Terrorists have exploited vulnerabilities in our asylum system and in the issuance of drivers' licenses. This bill fails to include the strong provisions in the House bill because my Senate colleagues found them 'too controversial.' That's unfortunate, because their refusal to consider these security provisions on their merits will keep Americans unnecessarily at risk.
"I said two weeks ago that the Senate was hell-bent on ensuring that illegal aliens can receive drivers' licenses, regardless of the security concerns. This Sept. 10th mentality in a post-Sept. 11th world is unwise and among those I intend to rectify next year."
Good post. This is a really big deal. The PResident just won re-election a month ago, and this proposal is still so unpopular that he's losing Republican Senators already.
The President is just crossways with his voters on this issue.
Ping.
King George is off base on a lot of issues, immigration and border security being two of them. Hopefully, the republican senate will grow enough backbone to stop the nonsense.
Tancredo and Issa (?-California) were on CNN. Now the full congress will vote on this intelligence bill. The house version of this bill passed with those immigration reforms in it. They will be working on the house to get members to vote against it's final passage. NOW is the time to let them know what you think. There is an election coming up.
Tancredo said Sensenbrenner was told this was an ideological thing with Bush and he would not stand for anything about the borders being in the bill. I'm on the run, so will catch you all later.
Congress: 1-877-762-8762
White house: 1-202-456-1111
King George ain't going to listen to anyone. Remember, he's gotta mandate of some type.
Bush, like Bill Clinton, is ignoring the will of the people.
Betrayed by whom? It's always been obvious that President Bush is a soft touch for illegal aliens. I voted for him because he's a better option than Kerry, but this is just the kind of fight I expected to have.
Yes, and the part you always omit is that several of the terrorists obtained the drivers licenses they used to board their planes with the help of illegal aliens, using the loopholes the illegals had been exploiting for years.
Sensenbrenner's provision would have barred the use of drivers licenses to board airplanes from states that issue them to illegal aliens.
There is no measure by which that would not have been a good thing for the country. The recalcitrant states would have immediately barred illegals from obtaining their licenses.
WRONG! The 9/11 hijackers overstayed their Visas and were illegal. We need serious immigration reform now to prevent them from coming in the first place.
Bump
Bush's willful wartime sabotage of border and immigration enforcement, shows him to be just another craven weak politician, occupying an office for which he lacks adequate morality and character.
=====
Yes... Yes... but didn't Bush just slobber White House honors all over Elton John and his faggot wife??? Sheesh... Bush surely is a huge piece of false crapola, spitting on the U.S. Citizens at every opportunity !!!
God bless Rep. Sensenbrenner! Rep. Hunter got what he needed to protect our military and his son, and I'm grateful, but what about our sons and daughters here at home? We have very porous borders, and you can bet the terrorists know this fact. The terrorists had 63 valid drivers licenses they used to evade detection. Without the drivers license provision we are as vulnerable as ever here at home. Does anyone in Congress care besides a few like Sensenbrenner? How many terrorists are part of the million people who come here illegally each year?
BINGO We have a winner!!
>>The only way to change this is to start voting out those who do not/will not represent the people who voted for them.<<
Add on--No matter what Party they say they support!
>>He just traded 15 minutes of fame for a lifetime reputation as a fraud.<<
The same as you are doing! Please continue.
Talking to yourself again, bayourod?
James Sensenbrenner has guts. It's a shame there is so little of that quality in Congress.

Mr. President,
Sir, please take note of this Wall Street Journal poll because it follows in line with many others. The percentage is approximate, but even dropping it by 10% doesn't make you look good, does it.
The Wall Street Journal isn't known as a racist rag amongst the voters.
Sincerely,
Dave
