Deal Reached on Intel Reform

WASHINGTON — The chairmen of the Senate and House Armed Services committees have reached an agreement on the intelligence reform bill that has been held up by two House lawmakers, clearing the way for a vote on the measure.

"After working through the weekend with the vice president, several conferees and other members, we have come to an agreement on changed bill language that we believe protects with necessary clarity the time-tested chain-of-command," Sen. John Warner, R-Va., and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., said in a statement Monday. "Pending a review of the rest of the legislation, we are prepared to support the bill as amended by this new language."

The two lawmakers will hold a news conference at 4:45 p.m. EST at the Capitol to discuss the bill. Many lawmakers expect a vote on the measure to come sometime Tuesday.

More details on CNN.com here:

Deal reached on intelligence bill

A House Democratic source gave CNN a copy of the draft that Hunter agreed on. The source indicated the language was intentionally ambiguous and made no mention of such specifics as satellites or troops.

Republican Congressman James Sensenbrenner had been pushing to have tough immigration provisions included in this legislation, but Republicans and Democrats think they can deal with his concerns in a separate vote in the next session.

[He folded. That separate vote will never see the light of day.]

Such a deal.........

And they didn't even have to deal with border or immigration security.

When my home is under threat, I screen everone coming in, and I sure add security to my property bounderies.

Yes, but now we have an additional layer of bureaucracy to insulate the politicians from reality.

First, they push HSD, telling us it was essential. And the selling point for it was to be a centralized agency for intel matters.

Next, they push Intel Czar, telling us it was essential. And the selling point for it was to be a centralized agency for intel matters.

Yet, as you say, the borders and still basically wide open.

[If another massive terrorist attack happens, and any of the perps are illegals, the American public should rise up and demand impeachment of massive numbers of politicians.]

new language

Of course the "new language" will not contain immigration provisions. If it doesn't address immigration provisions, Hunter has caved in. The fact that a "9/11 bill" doesn't put some restrictions on illegal aliens is a travesty and an insult to those who have family members who died on 9/11.

Hunter caved in and they'll just ignore Sensenbrenner. News travels fast and this bill sends a signal of a weakened U.S. Rumsfeld might change his mind about being SECDEF; and, the southern border? Well, it has never looked so welcoming. Therefore, why not bomb our embassy in Jeddah? Heck, we don't protect Americans at home so we certainly won't protect 'em over there. This puts our soldiers in worse jeopardy. These kinds of things have long term effects that cannot be reversed.

The entire bill is a bureaucratic crock and the 9/11 Commission was a farce. It all sends a message of infighting and weakness.

Oh, and the wishes of 80% of Americans? HAHAHAHAHA.

The Hunter part is in regards to the Pentagon access to Intel.

Immigration is in the Sensenbrenner part, which apparently, has been mooted until next session. From the CNN report: "...Sensenbrenner had been pushing to have tough immigration provisions included in this legislation, but Republicans and Democrats think they can deal with his concerns in a separate vote in the next session."

It is absolutely mind-boggling to realize that this administration thinks it can secure our nation without controling the inflow of aliens into our nation.

For crying out loud, this isnt rocket-science! IF you cant secure all entrances and exits to a building you cant even pretend to have security in a building.

Suppose you hire a private security company to provide security to your corporate national HQ. You show up to see what they ahve accomplished when they say that they are ready and you see no guards at any doors, all the doorways are open and unsecure, and everyone can just walk in off the street and do whatever they want with impugnity.

Would you excl.aim relief and extend their contract or fire them and get someone who knows what they are doing?

Well, it seems that W wants to pretend he has given the nation a secure border when he has not.

That kind of farce is going to get a whole lot of people killed in the not too distant future.

Now we can finally have a Central Agency in charge of Intelligence.

Hmm, that looks familiar. I think we've driven past this landmark before.

You all worked so hard to get the "Two-Part Cartel" reelected so they can do this . Remember what I have said for years - there will be NO true conservatives put on the Supreme Court. There will be NO border protection nor illegals pushed out of this country. Only if you are willing to vote a 3rd party will you ever get respect.
