It didn't start with Bush but DAMN HIM, a border state governor, for becoming the defacto first U.S. President for Mexico. Makes me sick! He lied his butt off to get votes in 2000 saying with gusto, "We've got to protect our borders," and blow the roof off the issue with a defacto amnesty proposal.

I have *no* idea how to fight on this issue. The Republicans don't want to touch it because the Dems will scream "RACISTS!" like they did with massive success in California during the 90's, the Dems won't do anything because they love the immigrants flowing across because they and their children become the kind of permanent underclass that gives the Democrat Party its power and base. It's sick and getting sicker!

If there's a terror attack traced to a border problem, such as illegal entrant obtaining a legal driver's license, I want Tancredo or Sensenbrenner to draft articles of impeachment.

maybe Hunter has a few skeletons.

He has a son on the ground in Iraq. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I wonder what "deal" was made with Mexico's Fox over immigration? What do we get in return? Less access to hospital ERs? More crowded schools?

This bill DOES NOTHING for border security.

This bill DOES NOTHING for border security.

And it should never pass. I'd like to see the final vote tally on this.

Watch and see, for all the "I like Bush but..." comments, people on this forum will still blindly support him and GOP members of the House who support this crap, the most important security changes to come along in years.

Please explain why "an illegal entrant obtaining a legal driver's license" is somehow a "Border Problem".

Are they handing out drivers' licenses at the border, on your planet?

And the families and 9/11 commission members acted like if this wasn't passed THIS WEEK we are all gonna DIE!!!!!

You are correct. The 9/11 families think that only THEIR families are involved in this war on terrorism. Frankly, the military needs to be protected by the meddling of some of these 9/11 families. The politicians need to stay out of the affairs and responsibilities of the military. Shut up John McCain!

"We have several new senators that are very much more conservative than those they defeated. The next legislative session will marginalize center-left Republicans and make bills that have less compromise in them.

I hope."

I hope your right but with George 'the eletists' Bush in power I doubt those who stand for the common working man and values will get much traction. Bush is an eletist and could care less about the working class as long as Business gets cheap labor the rest of America can suffer with our schools, healthcare and lower wages due to illegal immigration.

I suppose you think that the 'Rats REALLY care about "the working man"? There is more to the illegal immigration problem than just cheap labor;

first, it would cost tens of billions to round them up and deport them,

second, they are paying SS on stolen or invalid numbers so the $10 BILLION they put into the pot is skimmed offby greedy politicians since there is no real way to account for the money (think of it, you work at the SS administration and you get in a check for an invalid number, what do you do with it?),

third, there is the matter of a labor shortage for unskilled workers, people now think that is beneath them to have to take a job cleaning hotel rooms or flipping burgers or doing farm work

I am sure there are other problems with dealing with illegal immigrations that I haven't thought of. Don't get me wrong, I believe that illegal immigration is a very serious problem, but I also do not believe that Bush is the elitist you have him to be.

I missed Tancredo, my granddaughter over today watching Spongebob Squarepants ( I think Spongebob is smarter than most of the dems).

Anyway, the dems I have heard on the house floor today are taking way too much credit and getting way too much pleasure in this bill. I think they think THEY got away with something. Guess what, since I haven't read the bill, I bet they DID get away with something.

One thing we DO know is that Sensenbrenner and Tancredo got hung out to dry, and they supposedly have been promised by Delay and Hastert that a stand alone Immigration bill will come up ASAP!!!

I think this calls for the FReepers to SPECTERIZE these guys (pound them with phone calls and e-mails) until they KNOW without a doubt that they are being watched and are expected to follow through on their promises!!!

"He has a son on the ground in Iraq. Maybe that has something to do with it."

Seems like all the more reason he wouldn't want terrorists stepping over the U.S/Mexican border to attack the rest of his family.

Must have been an awful hard "push" by the White House to get him to go back on his word and not hold out for the border issues to be addressed.

Such a simple mind... sounds like you have been reading the NYT. The answer is incredibly simple ENFORCE THE LAW!!! If you take away the benefits and penalize the employers for hiring illegals you wont have to round them up and deport them they will leave on their own. Many studies have concluded that the idea that Americans are unwilling to work low paying jobs is false. Maybe you should question what you hear dont assume just because Bush is for it that its good. Bush is an eletist (from MA no less) and could care less about the working man.
