Most Americans believe the virgin birth is literally true
Newsweek ^ | Dec. 5, 2004

Dec. 5 - Seventy-nine percent of Americans believe that, as the Bible says, Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, without a human father, according to a new NEWSWEEK poll on beliefs about Jesus.

Sixty-seven percent say they believe that the entire story of Christmas—the Virgin Birth, the angelic proclamation to the shepherds, the Star of Bethlehem and the Wise Men from the East—is historically accurate. Twenty-four percent of Americans believe the story of Christmas is a theological invention written to affirm faith in Jesus Christ, the poll shows. In general, say 55 percent of those polled, every word of the Bible is literally accurate. Thirty-eight percent do not believe that about the Bible.

Praise be to Him that all things are possible with God. Including a Jacob's ladder that came down from heaven on Christmas day.

It is true.

This hokey headline makes it sound like some kind of surprise!

If only that 79% would stand tall and use the name of "Jesus" frequently instead of accepting the scorn and hysteria and religio-phobia of the intolerant....

Avoiding politically correct "seasonal celebrations" that have eliminated all references to what makes the Christmas holiday "holy" would be a great start.

Most Americans believe the virgin birth is literally true

And so do a lot of observant Muslims.

I made this strange discovery a few years BEFORE 9-11 when I heard a radio
interview of a Muslim and a Christian cleric.

(please, no flames on the following commentary...it is simply VOA's opinion about
the situation...)
The Christian fellow said it was ironic that probably more Muslims actually believe
in the New Testament's account of a virin birth.

SADLY, this was before 9-11 and the Christian cleric didn't (or failed) to mention
that a lot of Islamics believe all sort of BIZARRE details to the story of
Christ that would demonstrate to most mainline/observant Christians that
Islamics do NOT believe in the same Christ and G-d that Christians embrace.

This is just the follow-up to the P.E.S.T. afflicted whiner columnist who in a Nov. 3 column bemoaned the fact that more Americans believe in the Immaculate Conception than the Threory of Evolution.

The Coastal Blue State types still have a hard time accepting that there are people of faith in the country. They think that everybody is just like them.

As I understand it there was a pol done in England among the clergy (THE PRIESTS MIND YOU) in the Church of England (their Episcopagans) and less than 25% if their clergy believed in the Virgin Birth. If I recall it was close to 10%. But these frauds still cash their paycheck. It is a scandal what passes for clergy in the mainline churches these days.

Merry Christmas to the Christians and Merry S@#$ head day to the atheist bastards. Keep believing your theories and I will believe the truth.

In general, say 55 percent of those polled, every word of the Bible is literally accurate. Thirty-eight percent do not believe that about the Bible.

Within the ranks of the thirty-eight percent, you will find the Roman Catholic Bishop, Patrick McGrath.

You know, the Muslims believe that the Qur'an was dictated word-for-word from the angel Gabriel to Mohammed, and that the original Qur'an is on display up in heaven. So who's correct, and how would either of you convice the other?
