In 1936, during the period of purges, Stalin proclaimed a new Constitution for Russia,

Unless I missed something, this is the only reference to the slaughter of tens of millions. History textbooks used in the USA for years described Stalin: industrialized Russia. Students should be reading "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" to find out what Stalin was really about.

President Harry Truman once said in an unguarded moment: "I like old Joe. Joe is a decent fellow, but he is a prisoner of the Politburo."

We know with observations such as this as well as not admitting that his government was larded with communists, he was a failure as president.
