A great story about the woman that defeated the idiotic 55mph national speed limit.
I'm sure none of those 1,600,000 were using cruise control, right?
"Second, all cars and trucks must take and pass a yearly safety inspection that is, as one might imagine, VERY thorough and meticulous."
We have a yearly safety inspection in Virginia. I think that's why U-Haul keeps their trucks registered in other states.
"About 1/3 of those miles were accumulated in 6 different countries."
Take drivers from those 6 different countries (excluding any which are first-world) and many more third-world countries, put them all on the road at the same time with no apparent driver training at all, and that's what you've got in the Washington, DC area.
Poor fellow...
"Nothing like seeing some idiot merge onto a highway, slow down the entire right lane because they moved over while going 45MPH in a 65MPH, and THEN speed up and move over to the left lane."
The really good ones merge onto the highway at 45, then move into the left lane, and THEN speed up (maybe).
Zero of those miles were on cruise control. I don't use it.
I prefer total control of a vehicle.
Among other things, if you'd ever hit black ice, or water a few inches deep, while in cruise control, you'd figure that out real quick brian.
I don't use it during bad weather, so no, I've never hit black ice or water a few inches deep while using cruise control.
I fail to understand why you think it's so difficult for someone to make intelligent decisions about how to operate their vehicle.
I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree.
I never said that. Read back. We were discussing cruise control and it's risks due to delayed response times in an event.
And I really wasn't referring to just you specifically or any other individual. I was basically referring to the general public.
