"Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude," returned the gentleman, "a few of us are eneavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenl felt, and Abundance rejoices."
"Are there no prisons? Are there no poorhouses" asked Scrooge.
"Plenty, Sir. But some would rather die than go there."
"If they would rather die," said Scrooge,"they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

The Christmas Carol...still one of my favorite stories.
Which reminds me:
The King will reply, "I tell you the truth. Whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did to me."
I note he didn't say, whatever you told the government to do for the least of these, you did to me. He said, whatever YOU did...so I do what I can.
And I read the Christmas carol regularly to remember about generosity of spirit vs. miserliness.
LOL, yep, this fruitcake wins today's SCROOGE award.
