Watch Video December 3, 2004 A group of Waco High students took their beliefs to the street Friday morning by staging a protest. The demonstration came after members of a local church handed out fliers condemning abortion and homosexuality.
Several Waco High School students gathered Friday morning to protest Waco's Church of the Open Door.
"Gay is ok, gay is ok... the students chanted.
For the past week, church members have been handing out pamphlets and talking to Waco High students about abortion, pre-marital sex and homosexuality.
"Abortion, homosexuality all of that is wrong, the Bible says," one church member said.
"They do a lot of harassment, student Jeremy Durh says. They call us atheist, satanist, when we don't take their pamphlets. We represent freedom, freedom of gayness, of abortion, your choice of religion, God or Buddha."
Church members say they're just trying to show the kids God's way. Church member Jeanie Jenkins says, "Since I have been walking this way, I have peace and happiness in my life, than opposed to living on the other side."
The students sang songs and chanted during the protest. Students say, right or wrong, the choices are theirs and, right or wrong, parents say they don't appreciate the group upsetting their children.
Margie Essmail says, "I have a problem with people making their kids cry at school by showing them bad things and telling them they're an abomination."
Linda Teeter says, "They're like, If this is how Christians act, then I don't want anything to do with it and I think it's totally wrong. I don't agree with their lifestyles, but at the same time, the Bible tells us it's no more a sin gossiping or lying."
All in all, it was a peaceful protest and both sides were clearly heard. Church of the Open Door members also handed out fliers at Waco's University High.
To liberals, harrassment is simply conservatives speaking their mind. Since they can't refute it, if they can't drown it out, they have to complain.
It's ok to protest and sing protest songs but handing out a flyer is hurtful...?
Good Lord what's happened to us.
Amazing they didn't claim it was thousands of them.
These are just a bunch of kids looking for some attention. It's a phase most of us went through. I'm surprise that the Waco news covered it. Must have been a slow news day.
"...parents say they don't appreciate the group upsetting their children."
Well, God forbid you should actually SET the moral standards within your own homes! Why...this might actually cause your brainwashed children to QUESTION the way you've raised them!
Darn right you should be mad about this! /sarcasm
I agree with you there. There is a church where I am from that does the same thing, and they turn off many more people to all Christians then they do anything else. They make me mad because they are furthering the false ideas that many people have about Christians.
Homosexual Agenda Ping.
It would be interesting to hear this from the church members' point of view.
Either way, Buddha didn't like immorality either.
Let me and ItsOurTimeNow know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.
However, I don't know that I believe the religious group is calling the children "atheists" and "satanists" and making them cry. It sounds exaggerated to me.
"Gay is ok, gay is ok... the students chanted.
...
"They do a lot of harassment, student Jeremy Durh says. They call us atheist, satanist, when we don't take their pamphlets. We represent freedom, freedom of gayness, of abortion, your choice of religion, God or Buddha."
What you're witnessing here is the direct result of two full decades of pro-homo, zero-moral culture saturation.
I work with teens in my own church, and had two recently leave because they had been brought up thinking exactly what this young lad thinks. They were rasied, by their Christian parents, to think that homosexuality was not a choice, was not that big of a deal, and that situational abortion was ok.
It all comes back to parents. Parents too friggin' busy with their own lives to raise their kids with a proper moral compass.
It's sad.
But, the good news is that it's not lasting. I see changes in the upcoming generation. The kids being raised by Gen X'ers are being brought up with a sounder moral code, because we've seen the destruction that "anything goes" has brought home.
The culture is 'brainwashing' your kid every day.
You're making that up.
Ironic, considering the fact that the bulk of the 'subversion' of kids these days is taking place at school, by the leftist NEA teachers.

I teach high school students. I would take with a small grain of salt their claims that the Christians actually called them atheists or satanists. Could have happened, but I doubt it.
" They call us atheist, satanist, when we don't take their pamphlets."
Unnecessary, & not particularly pleasant behaviour but I'm sure the students could think some clever replies rather than making a big deal about it.
We used to get the Jehovas Witnesses knocking on the door round here a lot. Nothing against them, very polite & all that, but they won't take no for an answer. A couple of years ago I took to telling them that I couldn't talk as I was in the middle of sacrificing a goat. They don't knock on our door any more.
My mate tells them to ---k off.
That works too.
