Some excerpts:
Following last month's election, with Bush winning his second term and Republicans making gains in the Congress as the majority party, it is time Canadians showed maturity in appreciating the reality of America as it is, rather than seeking comfort from the polemics of self-loathing Americans such as Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore and their followers.
A generation ago, Jean-Francois Revel, an uncommon French intellectual, wrote: "The revolution of the 20th century will take place in the United States. It is only here that it can happen."
In his most recent book, Anti-Americanism, Revel discusses once again how much of European antipathy towards America is driven by hostility to Jeffersonian democracy, rather than any rational analysis.
Europe, Revel reminds us, is the cradle of the two great criminal ideologies of the 20th century -- Communism and Nazism -- and it is America that rescued her from both, as it will most likely again from the perils of Islamist fascism. (WOW! A Frenchman who gets it, too!)

to set the record straight..a heck of a lot of us canucks think president is awesome...clinton is thought of very differently
My wife, born in Atlanta and raised in the south would strongly object to that. It's southern heritage, not the civil war. Yankee is not derogotory it's descriptive, it means a northerner, to a southerner, simple.
Good post.
Thank you so much! I knew everyone up there could not feel so much animosity towards President Bush. And I am glad that you all have more sense than our media to realize that President Clinton was not the greatest thing since sliced bread! Even though he appears to be a very friendly guy, he certainly did embarrass us and he did lie.
A great many Canadians are pro American and like GWB. The liberal main stream media panders to the vocal lefties as it does down in the U.S. History will prove that President Bush chose the right course and the American people had the guts to stick with him. The loud mouthed lefties will then slink back under thier rocks.
I'm not a yank thank you very much...I'M SOUTHERN....
Never ever ever ever ever call a Southerner a "YANK" Never....have your tongue pulled out first.
Never call a Southerner a yank...got it....
Oddly no American ever really amongst themselves uses the term 'Yank'...Yankee yes but not 'Yank' also if you call someone from the south a Yank or Yankee you might get punched in the mouth :>
*shrug* I'm American. You can call me anything you want, but that ain't gonna change. And I'm AF Colonels' daughter. I'm from the North, South, West, East, Hawaii, Guam.....up down left right... WAIT, scratch that left part.
In his most recent book, Anti-Americanism, Revel discusses once again how much of European antipathy towards America is driven by hostility to Jeffersonian democracy, rather than any rational analysis. THESE TWO PARAGRAPHS SHOULD BE ALL OVER THE NEWS, TALK RADIO ETC. This is what will change the world. Ask one question? If Africa and India had suburbs with a Home Depot and homes built like America -how big would the world economy grow and how much tension would go out of the clash of cultures?
.....consequently (myself being a "Yankee" conservative in the rural north)....if a southerner calls me a Yank, or Yankee, it is probably meant as a derogarory remark, so I might oblige him and lossen a few of his teeth.
To be called a Yankee by another northern conservitive is a compliment of the highest regards. I guess it just depends on who's calling me Yankee....and the tone of voice used.
lossen=loosen
So does anyone know the origin of the word "Yank"?
I like to think the word comes from the fact that we "Yanked" the leash of the British before we turned and bit them.
As for Canadians, I always wanted to go up to Alberta and hunt geese, it is supposed to be fantastic. Are Americans still welcome in Canada? Even the ones who are conservative and bring guns with them? Do I have to take the NRA and "W" stickers off my truck in order to be safe?
Just curoius.
I would agree with that... While I was born and raised in So. Cal I consider myself a true Yankee as my father family is 10 generation New England farmers (1635 to 1914) I surely have the temperament
This has come to pass. Unfortunately the revolution is multiculturalism, and the Jean who saw the truth was Raspail not Revel.
Europe, Revel reminds us, is the cradle of the two great criminal ideologies of the 20th century -- Communism and Nazism -- and it is America that rescued her from both, as it will most likely again from the perils of Islamist fascism.
There is no clash of civilizations, there is only an internal civil war in the West. Islam isn't powerful enough to confront the West. If the U.S. and Europe had the same Muslim populations they had 50 years ago there would be little threat of Muslim terrorism.
without question...of all of the provinces in canada..alberta is the most user friendly for yanks...red neck is a term of endearment for most residents of that province and that is not a bad thing!!!!!....and the goose, duck, pheasant, prairie chicken and hottie hunting is fabulous...bcboy
to be quite honest..i'm a clinton hater..i absolutely despise the man and i don't think hillary is much better..he embarassed your country for 8 years and now bubba and the pantaloon lady want to have another run at it in 2008...god help us all...every day in canuckville is a good day for me with gwb as your commander in chief...bcboy
what happened..did the media police track you down and send you to the arctic circle before you could read frum's article about the "great" great whitenorth
term originally meant for new yorkers of dutch descent
typical dutch name (male) jan (pronunced -yan-)
typical dutch product (cheese) kase
jan-kase = yankees
later anybody living in that area (New York) was a yankee
by an american, and this was extended to all northerners.
