I don't think it happens all the time to make it a common occurrence...since Texas has a lot of chemical plants, and refineries, it does happen from time to time, but not a common occurrence

You must be joking or you don't live in this part of the state. I think the old Charter Oil Refinery blows up every 2 or 3 years and Amoco isn't much better. We have a couple of pipelines a year, just had one go over in Liberty County a couple of months ago and a gas distribution plant or two. That doesn't count a drilling, work over, or production platform.

Then again my family has only been in the oil field since the 20's ..... oh and my Grandfather was Field Superintendent for Humble Oil in Wink and was killed in their plant along with at least one more guy, in the 50's.

Nice to know that there are other Freepers in town!

Actually, I'm not "in town" now, but I was born in Houston, grew up in the Humble Camp across from Ellington AFB, and graduated high school in Pasdena. Plus, I worked for TI, and made lots of trips to the Stafford plant back in the 70's.

We are now retired in the Piney woods of Northeast Texas.

I loved it when the national news showed that there are basically 3 power grids in the US... 1. East half of the US 2. West half of the US and 3. Texas!

This one?

Woah!

That's not a blevy type, flash fire...That had to be a total vessel failure...No wonder it was a big boom!

Not everyday they actually catch these things going off like this...

Yep...

That is amazing that you didn't see or hear anything right when it happened...

I was on the phone with my mom who lives in Clear Lake...Wife-Unit and I felt and heard it first...And then after I said what was that??? My Mom chimed in a few seconds later and said I just heard a big bang also...

Did you see the post up there with the pictures of the initial explosion???

I just sent those to my Dad...

What La Raza terrorists would those be? To the best of my knowledge La Raza has never been associated with a terrorist act. If you know differently, by all means share the evidence.

I can't prove Terry McNichol's Islamic connections with the Iraqi Oklahoma City bombing even though he met with Islamic thugs from their intelligence groups in the Philippines, but I believe Iraq is connected with that bombing. La Raza is cut from the same Marxist cloth to which the Islamic and environmental thugs belong. It's just a matter of time before we connect the dots to activists’ violent acts by them

Well, good for you. A good ol' Texan...I am also. My dad was in the Borger oil field in the 1920's. My grandfather was the one who designed the round storage tanks that are used today. I have lived in the Houston area since 1958, now in Bryan/College Station. Two Texans with two different perspectives.

We have explosions in the industry pretty frequently. Unless they are big enough to make pretty pictures for the television stations, they don't get much coverage.

The explosion at the natural gas storage facility in Liberty County was pretty nifty. You could see the flames from the Williams Tower in west Houston.

No -I"m Southwest OF Houston, not Southwest Houston - but I appreciate your concern. It looked like a horrible explosion - the TV coverage even showed a fire tornado inside the blast - not sure what that is called but it was strange looking.

YIPES!! That does not sound good. The news here did not have much in the way of location or severity of the incident. Thank God you are OK.

If you have a map handy, the fire was inside Highway 8 and east of 59 I believe -
