Fighting for the wrong freedom

"Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1

Many organizations who say they struggle for peace and justice operate in areas being affected by the fighting between Israel and Islamic terrorists every day. These are entities which, among other things, hold dear to themselves the rights of women, children, journalists, minority ethnic/religious groups and gays. The fact of the matter is that they fight for none of these people. Point of fact, they do not advocate peace but advocate war on the human rights of these mentioned groups of Palestinian

The Palestinian Authority is a terrorist entity which since coming to power as a result of the Oslo "Peace" Accords has spelled for thousands of Israelis either death, injury or orphaning. My rancor does not deal with the silence of many of these human rights organizations, because after all most of them have an anti-Israel platform and will of course be blind to the suffering of Israelis. What irks me is the fact all of these organizations, whether they are for women or for gay rights, never mention the abuses occurring under the patronage of the Palestinian Authority. On top of that, they shy away and become abusive to those individuals who are trying to raise the awareness of that very issue.

Ali, a gay Palestinian Arab invited by the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) chapter at Connecticut College on November 21st, described the type of oppression and hardship he faced under the Palestinian Authority and the fact that many people like him have been tortured or have been killed by their family members and PA policemen. He noted the fact that none of these human rights organizations which assert they are fighting for his kinsmen speak up in disapproval, choosing instead to remain silent. In essence, they don’t stay true to their purpose of protecting groups of people like his, but spend all their time accusing Israel of breaking human rights abuses. They spend their time attacking the side which is democratic and has the better human rights record. A clear example of this was made not so long ago, when I listened at a Hillel Shabbat dinner to a Christian "peace activist" who not only failed to mention these abuses in her presentation, but also was unsure about whether they or any other group documented abuses by the Palestinian Authority on their own population.

The truth of it all is that Israel represents a beacon of freedom. Gays that manage to escape the Palestinian Authority regime can live in freedom in Israel, just like Palestinian Arab Christians who have come for the freedom of religion found in Israel. These are the real human rights issues these movements need to be dealing with, but they turn a blind eye to these mistreatments. They scream with disgust when Israel commits "abuses," but pay no attention to the abuses being done on the side they support. This is not to say human rights abuses don’t occur on the Israeli side, however when they rarely do, the authorities deal with the law-breakers and do not support their actions. This is opposite in the Palestinian Authority’s dominion where they commend the abusers and support or partake with their actions.

I always hear international women organizations concerned with Israeli soldiers searching "humiliated" Arab women for explosives, rather than hear them rally and criticize a woman being murdered in the name of maintaining a family’s "honor" on the Arab side. American groups spend more time making it look like the worst place for a woman to live in the world is in the United States. I dare these people to go up to a Muslim woman in the Palestinian Authority for example and say that to her face.

This childish and immature world outlook afflicts other organizations as well. A gay-rights organization pays more attention to supposed repression of gays in Israel or in the United States, but is blind to the murder and jailing of gays in the Palestinian Authority and other Arab regimes, and the fact that Arab gays have found refuge in Israel. Others say nothing of the abuses being done to Arab children in the Palestinian Authority school system where children are taught to hate Jews and Christians on a daily basis. They could care less.

Many of you are probably saying, "I recognize these abuses, but the fact is the biggest abuse of them all is the Israeli ‘occupation’ and it must end." In response to a question posed by an audience member about whether the Arab areas were freer when Israel had civilian control of them rather than the Palestinian Authority, Ali answered in the affirmative. This backed up statements made by another speaker sponsored on campus by the ZOA, the ex-terrorist Walid Shoebat. During Israeli civilian control from 1967 to the late 1980s, schools were built, jobs were provided, hospitals were maintained and a much higher standard of living was at reach. It was freer when Israel was in control, but none of these "virtuous" organizations dare to admit it today.

When the Palestinian Authority came to Arab areas once controlled by Israel the world’s peace organizations lauded the ending of some of Israel’s "occupation." They smothered the cries of those groups who now were at deadly risk. It wasn’t tranquility being brought to the homes of these unprotected groups, but hostility. The world would have none of that, and human rights organizations would not hear of it. It was a great victory for their "peaceful" cause. Effectively these groups for justice did not heed the warning: "what is joyful for you - is disaster for us…"

We are now living in a world years after the Oslo Accords were signed. Now there is a new move by the globe, whereas in the name of freedom it wants to allow the Palestinian Authority to have a country. And the sad part is that there isn’t going to be justice for these groups in such a country, just more abuses and killing of members of the population. This is what these "peace" activists refuse to open their eyes to. They are not supporting "freedom fighters" because the individuals working to evict Israel are doing so in the name of tyranny. When these individuals take power it will mean the enslavement of the Arabs by their Islamic government, not the bringing of liberty. Look at the facts on the ground and ask yourself this question: What kind of state will these Arabs have once they stop Israel’s "occupation"? Will it be free? Will it have freedom of the press, religion, speech, etc.? No. It will be blueprinted like the rest of the Islamic world. Fundamentally one can conclude that these groups are not fighting for the freedom of Arabs, but are fighting for the freedom of the Islamic governments to do as they please.

These peace and human rights activists need to get down to the ground and support the real issues. Israel is the democracy; the Palestinian Authority is the dictatorship. Israel is free; the Palestinian Authority is not. The latter regime is the one which needs to be protested against. Talk to women, gays, Christians and others who have led miserable lives under the regime of the Palestinian Authority. "Justice" groups, which claim that they care for the unprotected, need to back the messages of those who are repressed, bringing their message abroad.

During Ali’s talk, the ZOA Israeli representative acknowledged the fact that many campuses where Ali spoke had their gay rights and women rights school clubs refusing to cooperate and at times even boycotting the event. Even Palestinian Arab clubs did the same. Our campus experienced this as well. Where was the massive attendance from all those great human rights protection and diversity clubs on this campus? They clearly were aware of this speaker. Granted, a few did attend, but the vast majority did not bother to come. I guess I was too naive in believing that these kinds of clubs really cared about the issues in their platform. Could it be that they were too busy fighting for the real human rights issues? Now that I think of it, they probably chose not to attend because it ruined their outlook on the world, a world which has America as the greatest human rights abuser. An outlook that is so etched in stone that even a member of the population living under tyranny like the Palestinian Authority could not amend.

I hope there comes a day when these human rights organizations look in the mirror and at reality. A day when they start to really fight for the weak and the defenseless and raise the issues they pride themselves on, in this case being the status of the Arab population living under the Palestinian Authority. When that day comes these groups will finally realize that what they considered "peace" was really war to those they sought to defend.

Haven't you heard? According to the liberals who support the terrorists, all cultures are equal in value and you may not question if it right or wrong to murder your sister because your brother raped her. (big fat sarcasm off)

"I hope there comes a day when these human rights organizations look in the mirror and at reality."

Don't hold your breath. They do not, as you carefully described, exist for the purpose of protecting the weak and vulnerable. Our mission should probably be to expose these groups for their anti-American, anti-Israel and indeed anti-life bias, and watch them erode to a small minority.

These are the same people that praise dictators like Fidel Castro, who has oppressed the Cuban people for decades. These are the same people who want a culture of death to prevail. They cry over the pain an animal may receive before being slaughtered, but have no qualm with a doctor ripping a fetus from its mother's womb, as the fetus swims away. As I posted on another thread today, and repeat, liberalism is like a disease, once infested, it's difficult to abate. My best answer is -- let's find a cure!!

Good article Mr. college student and keep spreading the word.
