The i-unit, which resembles a wheelchair, is designed to help people get around. It will be displayed at an exposition in Aichi, central Japan, next year. (AP Photo/Shuji Kajiyama)

The compact sized vehicle, which runs on lithium-ion batteries, enables the passenger to move among other people in an upright position in low speed mode, while the vehicle reclines in high speed mode to lower the centre of gravity and ensure stable handling, the company said.

Look! Hayata! The Monster!

Say what you want but at least the Segway is more than a concept.

What is the purpose of the outfits the demonstrators are wearing?

What a waste of money.

Well, it's their money, and these are just concepts. Besides, these efforts are more fun than the cartoonish little two-seat EV's Toyota, Nissan and Honda came up with a few years ago.

The i-foot is hilarious -- and obviously impractical. But the i-unit concept car has possibilities.

Whoa. I didn't think anything could look dorkier than the Segway. I was wrong.

The future is queer.

ROFLMAO!!! Maybe our kids and grandkids will live in a world with vehicles similar to these.

It kept them from being nude. That would distract from the product.

Some movie producer may actually pay Toyota to use these in a sci-fi flick.

Instead of using the iFoot couldn't you...just...walk?

Not if you're wheelchair-bound. This technology could lead to a revolution in mobility aids for the disabled, funded by the "early adopters" with money to burn on geeky toys.

I admit to sitting and watching the whole thing through again, though I've seen it (and lots of variations) about a zillion times...

Guess it never rains in Japan.

Awwww, come on now. They know something about water. After all, Godzilla was born in the ocean, and he just got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
