The i-unit, which resembles a wheelchair, is designed to help people get around. It will be displayed at an exposition in Aichi, central Japan, next year. (AP Photo/Shuji Kajiyama)
The compact sized vehicle, which runs on lithium-ion batteries, enables the passenger to move among other people in an upright position in low speed mode, while the vehicle reclines in high speed mode to lower the centre of gravity and ensure stable handling, the company said.

It's probably the long week, but at first glance it looks like a cross between a dental chair and a Maxi Pad that belongs to Mrs. King Kong.Ewwwwwww...

"Confined" -- come on, don't go politically correct on me. You know it's just a manner of speech and isn't intended as a negative. I am "confined" in the sense that I have chronic asthma which limits me in some ways. I'm confined to using glasses, because I've always been very nearsighted, and my eyes are too dry for me to wear contacts comfortably. I'm "confined" at work five days a week.
If we keep accelerating the number of otherwise innocent words we find insulting, pretty soon we won't be able to express ourselves naturally at all.
As for devices to help people who cannot stand on their own get eye-to-eye with others, they already exist. Christopher Reeve was shown using one in a TV special. But the current devices are not mobile. Mobile ones will be available in the not too distant future thanks to companies like Toyota and others who are willing to spend the huge R&D money necessary to "think outside the box" and develop unusual concepts that keep pushing technology forward.

Toyota would have to pay them. And, it would have to be a comedy. With gay subplots.

I don't get what the technology advance is behind what appears to be nothing more than a fancy looking golf cart. Here's a technological innovation it's still lacking: someplace to put your golf clubs.
